Biden signs $1.2 trillion funding package after Senate’s early-morning passage ended shutdown threat

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — President Joe Biden on Saturday signed a $1.2 trillion package of spending bills after Congress had passed the long overdue legislation just hours earlier, ending the threat of a partial government shutdown.

“This agreement represents a compromise, which means neither side got everything it wanted,” Biden said in a statement. “But it rejects extreme cuts from House Republicans and expands access to child care, invests in cancer research, funds mental health and substance use care, advances American leadership abroad, and provides resources to secure the border. ... That’s good news for the American people.”

(snip)

When combining the two packages, discretionary spending for the budget year will come to about $1.66 trillion. That does not include programs such as Social Security and Medicare, or financing the country’s rising debt.

On Ukraine aid, which Biden and his administration have argued was critical and necessary to help stop Russia’s invasion, the package provided $300 million under the defense spending umbrella. That funding is separate from a large assistance package for Ukraine and Israel that is bogged down on Capitol Hill.

From March, but posted as a reminder. When Congress gets back from their recess, watch out for the last minute money grab in anticipation (assuming a free and fair election) of Trump's return, along with potentially a Senate and House of the same party.

I noticed the uptick in Zeeper propaganda lately, which is why I posted it.

Let's make this a prediction thread of what the Uniparty will try to sneak through with the election distraction, using the phrase "we have to pass this omnibus".

Hypothetical question. Let’s take a typical taxpayer, a little short of funds but wants to comply with the tax filing deadline. So let’s say he writes a check for the taxes owed, but he doesn’t have the money in the account to cover the check. Can he just use the United States government excuse of oh well, we meant to pay our taxes and after all that important fact.

advances American leadership abroad

What in the heck does this mean?

$1.2 Trillion is more than enough to allow Congress to take a break.

I'm expecting another 60 billion proposed for Ukraine.

Wouldn't be surprised to see money for fencing/troops around DC for November through 2nd quarter of next year.

Watch for more attempts to "lock in" funding that prevents Trump/Congress from affecting anything for the next 4 years.

That’s okay.

Fedzilla NEVER shuts down.

It’s another lie, an empty threat.

Anything Deep State wants to keep running gets deemed essential and doesn’t close, which is around 80% of Fedzilla generally.

The only parts that shuttered are the ones used to generate maximum pain/annoyance for the public.

We’re getting wise to that, though.

But Deep State still likes its Kabuki theater.

Yeah. I am sick of one POS who all he does is post that Ukraine crap. I don’t understand how that person is allowed here.

On the budget, if we don’t get back to doing real budgets, we are never, ever going to get out of debt. Ever.

“advances American leadership abroad”

I wonder what that particular circumlocution is supposed to mean?

What does that mean? How much more did we just sign on to spend on Ukraine? How much total will have been spent on Ukraine?
