In working this up, I figured out that he was fingering below the slide which pulls the string below the slide itself. Opened up a whole new technique.

Thanks! It’s an old favorite. Son used to live in Rochester NY and the House of Guitars would dig him out once a year to play on the blues mini-fest they’d have. I think he signed the autograph wall. Anyway, he’s on Stefan Grossman’s “How to Play Blues Guitar” sessions CD, and was interviewed for the liner notes of the Hendrix compilation “Blues”. He died in nursing care in Detroit.
