The MONTHLY Gardening Thread is a gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to/removed from our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a MONTH Ping List, but we DO post to the thread all throughout the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
“One day I will actually read before posting.”
That’s against the rules on FR, LOL!
The tomato jam can go sweet or savory - I find the flavor right in between, so it’s good on English Muffins, excellent stirred into some Mayo for a sandwich, good with crackers and cream cheese, or just eaten with a spoon. :)
I’ll bet it is spectacular! :)
See, if GMO meant talking ‘maters, everyone would want it!
I don’t want a Handsome Prince - I want a talking Frog! :)
I made dozens and dozens of platters of that with my own fresh mozzarella from our grade AAAA goats milk. Only I like to chiffonade the basil. And sprinkle very lightly with Kens Northern Italian dressing. I would take a platter into the office (I worked late afternoon, evenings). Would put it by the coffee setup. Send an email to everyone’s cubicle and in about 5 minutes it was all gone.
I’ve done green onions and celery successfully, planting the new growth in the garden. Have bot tried radishes, what do you plant, the cut off green tops?
That is what I am doing and I have seen growth.
Truth be told, I think that they personally do not like me. I was a part of the old regime. I used to host a regular segment on their old show a few years ago and since then have been reluctant to have me on. I think that they realized who I was AFTER I was on the air. :)
I’ve had SOME luck re-growing celery. If you want to do re-grow veggies, then do it!
I’ll bet the people you were talking to are a bunch of snotty Master Gardeners. ;)
I’m a not-quite, still have a few courses to finish now that I’m retired, Master Gardener, but I TRY not to be snotty about it. Trust me, 18 YEARS in Garden Center Retail Management totally humbles you. And, I HAVE done, and have SEEN every dumb thing a Gardener can possibly do! :)
If I had to choose, the talking frog would win hands down. :^)
Just found this, it actually has a name “scrap gardening”. No time to read now will do later.

I need recipes for weeds. The two foot tall variety.

Plan on coming for the Trump inauguration!
Began seedlings and planting about 2 weeks late, and over 90F temps held back some fruit set, so now I am just getting the first rip ones. Plus butternut and acorn squash are growing. Thanks be to the God of Heaven.
Rather than pics, then her is an amateur Gif vid. (note that the large veg. oil containers are for hauling water from the rain barrels in the back, after being drained and rinsed out):
Gardening thread post 9: Fairies There!
From Scotland: The-Findhorn-Garden-a-collaboration-between-humans-and-nature.

In a magazine called Harrowsmith I read a story about Findhorn where they (the Scottish gardeners) discussed leaving a wild “Fairy Island” in their gardens so the genus loci would have a place with undisturbed soil to rest and help the garden.
I think this a good idea as it a good place for things like wild bees and predator insects to live undisturbed. (Agnostic about the fairies. Angels instead?? :)
Everything looks great.
“Plan on coming for the Trump inauguration!”
Wouldn’t that be something, president Trump and authentic pizza! I don’t know if I can handle both in the same trip! I might faint
