And yet SOMEHOW, a woman in CA was able to ship me (a bit east of the Mississippi River) an open box 1 hp Wayne well pump for $15.25, via eBay “Standard Shipping”, and it got here in 3 days.
This growing season has been a trial for me between the weather and the six produce-stealing puppies running loose.
This TIMELY article landed in my mailbox from Grit Magazine this month. It has helped me keep things in perspective in this trying season; I am now counting some of my fallow beds as having a ‘soil-growing year!’ :)

It’s Tomato Season in new England!

We had a sudden early heat wave and my cukes did poorly. I had to replant and now just starting to get baby ones. Controlling cuke mosaic with thuricide and peroxide. I think we got past the cuke beetle stage since we had to replant everything that got fried even after hardening off.
Instant Strawberry Sorbet
Easy 1-Minute Sorbet, deliciously refreshing and smooth could not be simpler for a fast company dessert. Can sweeten or not w/ pure maple syrup. Sophisticated enough for adults but also a kid-pleaser. Strawberries are naturally tart-sweet. Can add a bit of sweetener to enhance the sweetness slightly. This strawberry sorbet pairs wonderfully with Pinot Grigio white wine for company.
How-to Toss frozen berries into blender and blend smooth.
Enjoy at once, or freeze about an hour for a perfect sorbet scoop.
Vary Use frozen mangos, raspberries, or blueberries.
Frozen canned pineapple makes a deelish sorbet.
I have a convection oven but make similarly on the charcoal grill. Heat to 475 degrees with pizza stone heating on top rack. Put semolina or cornmeal on metal pizza peel and put pizza on the peel. Quickly shove in and rotate half way through.
I got a bunch of scapes this year and roasted them, cut them up in small pieces and used as though mature garlic.
I love fried green tomatoes, and I bought one too many recently. It has started to ripen so isn’t as tasty when fried. I’ll keep it till it ripens. That article is perfect timing for me. Thanks!
That looks amazing!! I make great eggplant Parmesan, but going with grilled eggplant is a twist that I should try.

Nothing over 8 foot on craigslist. Lowes has 10 foot in stock for $250. Menard's has the same or a 12 foot ladder for $300.
Maybe a couple of 2x10s across the bed rails and stand the ladder on those and strap it down.
Used to use these in the sign business. The center ladder raises up and you climb up, sling one leg over and hook your foot in behind a rung for hands free working. I don't know if they even make them anymore. Too scary for modern man.

I think I might try adding some Italian style turkey sausage instead of beef. We’ve been enjoying that in our Italian recipes as a substitute lately. Have also mixed half and half turkey sausage with ground beef.
That looks like a great ladder design. Something about the wood there is very appealing to me.
