Two women were fatally shot on the Upper East Side of Manhattan Friday morning as a baby sat in the backseat of a car nearby, cops and sources said.
The apparently domestic-related incident between a woman and her former daughter-in-law unfolded minutes before 9 a.m. on East 88th Street near York Avenue — just a block from Gracie Mansion, according to police and sources.
One woman, the daughter-in-law, was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, sources said.
The mother-in-law’s grandson – a 1-year-old boy – was sitting in the backseat of a car at the time, but it’s unclear whether the deadly violence happened inside the car or outside, sources said.
“I heard yelling, and then I heard shots. I jumped into my doorway for cover,” a witness told The Post as sirens blared around him.

Sounds like it. At first I thought gang related, but this sounds like family dispute.
I haven’t lived in New York in 44 years, but East 88th Street used to be a very swank (posh) address.

The killer was grandmother to the victim’s four year old son. The killer moved to New York last year, where her son and grandson live.
I lived there for a few years, in the building just next to where this happened. It was a great neighborhood.
Tell me about it: I haven’t seen my granddaughters in 3 months while the parents have gone to the mattresses. My DIL has all the cards and power and we can’t do a thing about it. I’m fit to be tied.

Yorktown. It used to be “German”, like in the 1930’s. I knew a German-American kid in college (his father was Volksdeutsch in Yugoslavia and got drafted into the German Army for the war, but later emigrated to America.) I do not recall if the kid was born in the USA or Europe. We hoisted a few liters and grabbed some Schnitzel in one of the old Hofbrau.
Thanks. The good news is my son starts a new job on Monday. -It’s going to be tough for him, it’s 7-3. LOL, we’re going to make sure he gets up on time. It’s also a W-2 job, none of that funky W-9 nonsense.
When I lived there in the 80s there was still a sprinkling of German culture. A few restaurants, and a shop that sold the most wonderful marzipan confections. It was still known as Yorktown. About 7-8 years ago I was back for a wedding, and all that is gone.
