Vanity: The Most Incredible Eight Days in Contemporary American Politics?
FreeRepublic | July 21, 2024 | DoodleBob

We may have just witnessed THE most incredible eight consecutive days in contemporary America from a political standpoint.

Since July 13 the Nation - nay, World, has seen:

- assassination attempt on Trump,
-Biden asks for calm, then calls Trump a threat to democracy,
-Judge tosses out the “documents” case, declaring Jack Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional,
-RNC convention with Trump appearance with bandaged ear,
-Secret Service under fire,
-Biden rambles thru a Lester Holt interview that digs a deeper hole,
-Dems from Pelosi on down demand Biden steps aside from the nomination,
-Vance selected as VP candidate,
-Biden comes down with Covid, retreats to Delaware,
-Trump delivers a magnificent Presidential acceptance speech,
-Biden surrenders the Dem nomination, recommends Harris gets the nomination.

And I’m skipping over a lot of stuff.

With the possible exception of

-Lee’s surrender/end of the Civil War on April 9 and Lincoln getting shot by Booth on April 14 and dying April 15, 1965, or

-Kennedy’s assassination/LBJ taking the oath November 22, Oswald’s arraignment on November 23, Jack Ruby kills Oswald November 24, and the funeral on November 25, 1963,

I can’t think of anything that comes close. And those weren’t “political” in the same sense as the past eight days.

I remember my 8th grade English teacher brought a tv in the classroom and we watched Watergate. That was boring. I was 9 when RFK and Martin Luther were shot.

The apollo moon landing was cool, we were glued to the tv, that was several days. all the kids in the neighborhood watching at someone’s house.

Maybe Ronald Reagan’s funeral. Especially watching everyone lining the route, Nancy Reagan in the car waving to the crowds.

But, not every day. There wasn’t media coverage like today. No wonder I’m tired.

Events have been happening so quickly that I don’t believe we have fully understood how close our country came to all-out chaos. If Trump had not survived, or if he had been seriously injured, we would be looking at a far different world today. To think that a little punk kid from Pennsylvania nearly threw our nation into a bitter conflict still gives me chills. And the Democrats are still trying to put Trump in jail. These are much more fragile times than we might acknowledge. This is close to 1914 Sarajevo.

It’s been something, that’s for sure. As with some others, I would extend it back to the debate, when people, especially those in the Beltway, “found out” about how bad off Biden is.

I don’t think it’s done. Now watch the rats force Joe to resign.

You forgot the Supreme Court’s presidential criminal immunity decision in Trump v. United States 23-939 Trump v. United States (07/01/2024) - Supreme Court

That is what started all this.

Brit Hume with Fox appropriately said “even though I am part time now, I wouldn’t miss this for anything. News is coming like it is being squirted like a fire hose.”

“Maybe Ronald Reagan’s funeral. Especially watching everyone lining the route, Nancy Reagan in the car waving to the crowds.”

That was exciting. The back yard of the house where we lived then was adjacent to the Reagan Library property. The news trucks were invading our subdivision within about a half hour after the news of his death was released. The corner that went up to the Library was covered with floral arrangements within an hour.

I don’t think the crazies are gonna stop wanting Trump to be killed. This is going to be a threat to him, and his family, every day, multiple times a day, until Inauguration Day 2025.

I think I like to read history instead of living it. I know how it will end before reading about it and you can get into the details of how the history was formed.

In living history you are not sure where it will end and the details forming it will probably be secret until years later.

I’m living history in the dark.

The Dems allowed that punk kid to attempt the assassination. It was criminal beyond the actions of the POS patsy kid:”.

It’s nearly unfathomable that the 21st century status quo of the entire American political world turned topsy-turvy in just a couple of weeks ...

1.The collapse of multiple lawfare cases against President Trump;

2. SCOTUS decisions that favor President Trump & gut the power of the Federal bureaucracy;

3. The collapse of the Democrat Party due to their vicious internal civil war caused by their prime leader being exposed on 90 minutes of live TV as a senile zombie, finally resulting in the forced resignation of President Joe Biden as the 2024 Democrat Presidential candidate, with unknown replacement candidate and unknown mechanism of choosing said replacement candidate just 14 weeks before election day, with early voting starting in some states in just eight weeks ...

4. The reformation of the GOP into a powerful, unified populist party, lead by the re-ascendance of Donald Trump, who survived an assassination attempt thwarted by divine intervention ...
