Back in the mid '90s, when we searched for news about Whitewater and the OKC bombing, we browsed around on Drudge and Lucianne.com. Altavista was our search engine as Google had not yet become a household name. Then around 1996 or so a guy named Jim Robinson started a site called FreeRepublic.com, and the rest is history.

Like so many others, for a few years I only browsed the site. Finally, one day I noticed a particularly interesting comment (possibly from Laz), and decided it was time to register on the site so I could start posting.

Jim, thanks for your efforts in starting this site and managing it over the years, and kudos also to those that help keep things running so well. I'm not sure how many more years the Lord will give me but I plan on visiting FR as long as it's here and I'm able.

Congratulations on making it to 25 years on FR. May you have many, many more. I’ve been here going on 27 years, been retired for almost 21 years, and consider myself very fortunate to have lived this long, to have had the life I’ve had, and that I found Free Republic all those years ago.

Congrats. 26 1/2 years here. #1244 to sign back in after they moved platforms when they needed new servers.

Before that I found it on a Compuserve bulletin board.

Congrats! I see I just missed my 22 year anniversary yesterday. I still remember sitting in a computer lab in college when I was first checking out this site that Rush Limbaugh had mentioned and the so called Freepers that inhabited it. I was sitting in the same chair when we had a big earthquake. FR has had a lot bigger impact on my life, though.

Me last year

August 1998 I mussied up the gumption to post, as opposed to just read.

It was before they tried to take it down via lawfare and we posted entire articles.

This was to have them on record and to provide full context.

Fair use for social/political public discussion.

Congrats.

I see you attended the Air Force Academy. I used to live there. I lived in Pine Valley, the base commissary was located atop of the hill which separated Pine Valley from Douglas Valley about the time they had just completed the multi-domination Chapel. Loved Colorado Springs.

Were you aware that there was a small cave near the Academy entrance gate? It wasn't a big cave. We thought we would build a little fire in there one winter day by using leaves. The guy I was with was too slow existing the small opening so I pushed him out. as the cavern filled with smoke. Needless to say as we were leaving the base Fire Dept. could be heard enroute.

There was an old abandoned NCO Club. When they were demolishing it, they found that a rattlesnake den was underneath it, containing 10s of thousands of rattlesnakes. They ended up dynamiting it.

JFK gave the commencement speech in 1963. I saw him but from afar, so I couldn't really seem him clearly. Shorty after we move to Davis Monthan. That Nov. I was operating the projector for a film be shown to the class, when the teacher came into the room announcing that President Kennedy had just been shot. I didn't think much of it, because it was inconceivable to me that he would die, because he was the President of the U.S.
