I was probably 9 at the time, wasn't really sure which compass direction was where, but it had to be on the Pine Valley side, if they still used those names when you were there. Pikes Peak foot hills were accessible to us, because we used to go up there often just for grins. It wasn't really a long distance before we would reach the slope of the side of the mountain. One my my friends was related to Zebulon Pike. Can't remember if Zebulon Pike was his great great grandfather or great great something else. Can't remember how many greats removed he was either but it had to be two & perhaps more.

Its been so long, the cave might have been at the entrance to Pine Valley. At our young age & size it was hard for us to get through the opening. We just happened to find it by accident, if I am remembering correctly.

The quarters we had were duplexes, and Coach Smith (he was either the offensive or defensive coach of the Falcons, but I can't remember his first name) lived in the duplex connected to our duplex. They had like little basements, and his was full of broken glass. Because that was where he would take out his frustrations, and where we would throw a few against eh wall ourselves, he used to take me to the Olympic swimming pool that had the diving platforms. I think it was the 30 foot platform that he would allow me to jump off of.

I remember Davis Monthan more because of the plane graveyard that I was allowed to go into because we were good friends with the base commandeering officer. He had a purple sports car that he called the purple people eater. I can't think of his name at the moment, but I can picture him in my mind.

The base commander Col. Eslick @ AFA had a 40 acre spread in Black Forest. We spent a lot of time out there because my sister stabled her horse there and his youngest son was about my sisters age. My parents were good friends with them as well.

Happy anniversary. I forgot to figure out when my 25th was. 9/11, Freeperland was the ONLY website that could provide information.

Ping

I was working for the former DAO who survived the Sadat assination that occured in Egypt. He was retired back working as a contractor in 98 and I saw him reading FR. Good enough for me.

Didn’t even realize I’ve been here since October 1998. Time flies when you’re having a good time.

I hit 25 yrs last year, so it’ll be 26 yrs for me in Nov.

Hardly a day has gone by for 25+ yrs that I haven’t checked in or replied to something, Oh and I never lurked, I started participating in threads my very first visit. I heard about FR from George Putnam on his radio show way back then.

I’m very thankful to FR for all those years... Thanks Jim and John and everyone who made this place possible.
