‘It was torture’: Texas mom recounts being denied abortion for doomed pregnancy (BARF)
PMSNBC ^ | July 11, 2024 | Daniela Pierre-Bravo

When Samantha Casiano of East Texas found out she was pregnant with her fifth child, she was ecstatic. But at a 20-week ultrasound, she received shocking news. Her baby was diagnosed with anencephaly, a rare and fatal condition that prevents the skull and brain from fully forming.

This was in December 2022, after the Texas Heartbeat Act, or Senate Bill 8, was enacted. The law bans abortion after fetal cardiac activity is detected, which usually occurs after about six weeks of pregnancy. It was passed nearly nine months before the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which guaranteed a constitutional right to an abortion.

“I was told that it meant that my daughter was incompatible with life. And I wouldn’t be adding another little human to our family. It was really hard to hear that. It felt like it was a dream -- a really, really bad dream, Casiano, 30, recounted.

Casiano said she was told by her doctor that the baby “would die, either before I give birth, or as soon as I do give birth.” Because of Texas’ strict abortion laws, Casiano had few options. The state bans abortions in almost all cases, with the exceptions of “life threatening” conditions to the mother. Casiano said she was unable to travel outside of the state for an abortion due to financial and logistical constraints. So, she was forced to go to term with her baby.

She should have stayed home on the other side of the border where she would have received excellent medical treatment and free abortions for all.

That dumb woman ever heard of a car? She can murder her kid in any state that allows it.

Instead she has to tell her terrifying story. As if it isn’t terrifying for the poor live baby in her womb.

Terrible woman dragging politics into this.

The apathy to killing babies is why so many on the sicko left are cavalier about killing of Trump and MAGA.

Exactly right. The devaluing of life anywhere leads to the devaluing of life everywhere.

A chance to make the case for liberalizing Texas abortion laws.

I’d like to see how PMSNBC found these clowns. Did they contact the “media” or did the “media” violate HIPAA and contact them.

I don't see any indication in the article that she was born outside this country. Maybe I missed it.

Her grief is understandable. I suspect that she had pro-abortion doctors who told her that it would be painful for her child to breathe those 4 hours that she lived, but I doubt that was the case. I suspect this mother suffered over fear of her child suffering because pro-abortion doctors wanted to milk her story for PR.

I think her grief was probably more for herself than for the baby. And there is grief, and just wanting to be able to move on, especially if you think the child isn’t really a person anyway because they lack a brain. But that’s where being surrounded by people who affirm the value of life would have been much more helpful to this woman than those who led her to believe that getting rid of the baby inside her would somehow lessen the grief.

Pregnancy is a confusing time, especially when there are complications. That’s why it is so important for a woman to have people around her who help her through it rather than try to milk the situation for a political statement.

Same thing happened with a woman in OR whose doctor wouldn’t give her medical care when she had bleeding at 17 weeks and eventually premature rupture of membranes. The woman very much wanted her baby and the standard of medical care is to watch, administer antibiotics to prevent infection in the baby, and possibly try to speed up lung development. But the dr just wanted her to abort and said he wouldn’t risk his medical license by delivering the baby early (which would actually have been allowable under OR law and which wasn’t yet necessary). So he sent her to Utah and when she woke up she found that her baby had been dismembered so she didn’t even get to hold him. Obviously she hadn’t consented because she didn’t even understand that her dr had sent her off so the baby could be deliberately killed instead of the doctors trying to help him live.

One thing this article talks about is how there are more infants dying because of birth defects, premature delivery, etc since TX’s pro-life law. All that means is that babies who would have been killed in the womb are instead being born, held by their grieving parents, and dying - perhaps after being Baptized. As one who lost her first child to stillbirth at 42 weeks I believe that being able to hold that precious child is helpful to a grieving process - especially if it was a process you were never going to avoid anyway.

I’m sorry for your losses. After that, each new life you’re given feels both so fragile and so precious. I’m glad you were able to have the joy of the children who lived.

gotta wonder if liberal women understand exactly how babies are made. my best friend from grade school on up has 9 kids, all grown now, but after number 7 I asked him if he understood how this kept happening! he did. they just wanted a big family. now they have most of a football team.

Yes. A blessing for sure, and an understanding of the fragility of life. We all go on.

I wondered about that. Abortion of a child with severe and irreversible abnormality is allowed.

In this particular case it could have simply been early induced labor. No need to tear the child apart.

So my suspicion was correct. Her “doctors” were feeding her a bunch of baloney so they could make a political statement.

Somebody really should let her know how they abused her.

Had a coworker who was pregnant with a baby who had anencephaly. She delivered her baby and was able to hold and love him for a short period of time.

Anyone who says you MUST terminate the life of an encephalic baby is advocating for baby murder.

A beautiful family. Very sad that the mother and father thought it was better to kill their unborn baby than to nurture and comfort her as long as possible.
