For a long time I could not figure out why the government cares so much about our health and wellbeing.
Tobacco, alcohol, seat belts, firearms, helmets.
But...
Omnipotent moral busybodies will never be satiated, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
They will never stop unless they are stopped.

To Hell with their self esteem, virtue signaling and taxes.
I say give them nightmares they will never recover from and live life the way you want.

Mic. drop....

Have you ever considered the smoking rate in the U.S. was very low. Until the U.S. Entered World War II. Then the government pushed cigarettes on the soldiers. It was in basic rations for 60 years. Then in the 20's feminism pushed smoking on women.

Now, because of people like Rob Reiner the government makes trillions of tobacco. Because states have no overhead, California makes more money off tobacco than any tobacco company. Probably other states too.

So, every time you smoke a cigarette you are doing what the government wants, and you are funding big government.

“So, every time you smoke a cigarette you are doing what the government wants, and you are funding big government.”

Good point, and I’m’m a smoker as you might have guessed.
To avoid the high Minnesota pre-packaged cigarette taxes I buy pipe tobacco and roll my own one at a time. (It’s less than 1/10th the cost)
Sometimes it’s the little things that make you smile.

Thanks for Karening

Fine. You can smoke all you want. I don’t know why it’s supposed to be my patriotic duty to smoke: tobacco or marijuana. I am a Karen because I am not doing what the government tells me?

“ According to a new report, which was published the American Cancer Society, four in 10 cancer cases and nearly half of cancer deaths in Americans over 30 are linked to smoking cigarettes, being overweight, using alcohol, being inactive, eating a poor diet and getting too much sun. ”

“...the ACS finds that raising the price of cigarettes through excise taxes works best...”

Yeah. ‘Cuz nobody EVER finds a way around THAT via the Black Market or Indian Gaming operations or rolling their own. ;)

Never smoked. Glad I never started. My Dad quit when he was 40. Ended up in the hospital with Pneumonia and said it was suddenly a LOT more important to him to BREATHE than anything else. ;)

All the other listed bad habits? Yeah, I got ‘em, LOL!

Hmm... So what’s responsible for the other 80% of cancer cases, and 70% of cancer deaths?

Good on ya and cotinued good fortunes! Been smoking pipes and cigars since 1957 and at age 84 no signs of problems. Luck? Genes? Will it last? Who knows. My choice,

You are one of my favorite FReepers. :)

I have indulged in a ‘ladylike’ cigar from time to time. Usually on a milestone Birthday and never anything more toxic than a Swisher Sweet. There was once a Cigar Ping List on this forum and the guys always gave me good advice on flavor and selection. ;)

The feeling is mutual ma’m! Good down to earth, midwestern common sense and decency you are! Always straight shooter with great topics and comments. Am just south of the illannoy/Wisconsin border from you but heart is in Vilas County and the northwoods.😀

I smoked pot in my college years (1970s), and quit. I smoked premium hand rolled cigars during the 90s, and quit. I don’t even drink alcohol anymore because of meds ( not smoking or alcohol related). The hypocritical government is making too much money from taxes to ban any of them. And the tobacco industry is only too glad to help us kill ourselves. I’m not an anti smoker, but I am anti government involvement. Let the states regulate it.
