(CBS DETROIT) — On Monday, Police in Detroit were called to a home to complete a wellness check and found a pet alligator.
Police said a man was found dead inside the home on the city's east side. Also inside was a caged alligator and a German shepherd.
Detroit Animal Care and Control arrived and removed the animals, which appeared to be OK and had been there for weeks.
Police said the alligator was taken to the Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary in Athens, Michigan. The man's cause of death is currently unknown and will be determined by the medical examiner.

“The man’s cause of death is currently unknown and will be determined by the medical examiner.”
It’s possible that drugs were involved in some way.

At least they have one.
From time to time alligators are found in Wisconsin, in particular down around Kenosha.
This doesnt seems to make a lot of sense unless little Snappy McGee is doing some training for the animal olympics marathon team.
The earliest reports of some really large (12’+) are suspected to be escapees from circus trains when the circuses would often take time off in Baraboo.
But that was a long time ago even for an alligator.
The more recent ones seem to be someone from Chicago taking their 4-5’ bathtub pet to “the wilderness” of Wisconsin and letting it go.
Theres no way of knowing how many just freeze to death but from time to time a live one is found by a deer hunter or someone else exploring the swampy area down there.
