Please homeschool your kids if you can.
I'm sharing my experience working in NYC public schools and the experiences have been scary and heartbreaking.
Your beliefs and values and faith matter, do whats best for your kids.

No, you don't wait until the ideal circumstances happen to homeschool, because they will never just *happen*.
You MAKE them happen.
cyclotic is right. You made baseless derogatory assumptions about him for no reason.
Your claim to support homeschooling falls flat with the way you are reacting to it and treating homeschoolers.
You were indeed offensive towards him and with no good cause. You do owe him an apology for smearing his name on FR with false accusations.
And notice that some of the people doing it are simply living off the taxpayer with the excuse it is better for their kids that they are on food stamps, public health, whatever so that they stay home to teach their kids. Maybe Mayflower is right after all, saying people should not have kids if they can't afford them.
Let’s agree to disagree and get back to better topics. Biden is on live now, rambling. I’m sure from what I’m hearing already that there will be some choice quotes.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Those of us who have homeschooled know that it is entirely possible for ANY parent who is sufficiently concerned about their child’s welfare to do it, and homeschool support groups are more than willing to lend a hand.
There’s not a parent who CAN’T homeschool. It’s that they won’t and they use finances as an excuse instead of making sacrifices for themselves and their kids. Which are really no sacrifices at all.
Too many people live far beyond their means already. Budget and learn a little financial self-discipline.
I knew a single woman who had foster kids that she had adopted, one of who was so much trouble, he was kicked out of the public school and was headed for JD. She found an online homeschool course and he did that and FLOURISHED. And she worked full time supporting her and her adopted kids.
It can be done.
“Some people” is the garbage that leftist media resorts too.
Name the people living off the dole and homeschooling.
Oh, but you can’t name them but you sure can accuse me as being “some people.”
You’re in the wrong place. I suggest you go find a leftist site to smear people on.
And who would that be?
Because we homeschooled for 12 years and were part of 3 different homeschool support groups over that time, due to moving, and I NEVER in all that time with the hundreds of homeschoolers I knew, met ANYONE who did that.
You are deliberately misrepresenting homeschooling and homeschoolers.
So why are you on this thread anyways? Any purpose besides trying to provoke people, smearing homeschoolers, and trying to discourage others to do it?
Then take it to that thread. This is about homeschooling, not biden's dementia.
And while people can agree to disagree, insulting others and smearing their reputation is not *disagreeing.
It's character assassination.
👁️
And valuing college, barely 50% of homeschooled kids go to college compared to 2/3 of public school kids. Yes, there are exceptions, but that's a significant difference.
Go ahead, flame me, as I said, I didn't wake up this morning to have this discussion. I'm done with it. See you on other threads...
Lastly, read the thread, I’m the recipient of insults and smearing, not the other way around. But, again, whatever. Flame me if it makes you all feel better and holier-than-thou.
Sorry you feel that defaming me is not defaming me. That’s inexcusable and deserves an apology.
Maybe you need to get your facts straight before going to baseless accusations.
Now I’m done too. Maybe we’ll become friends later.
Did you really post that with a straight face?
Absolutely
2 out of my four went to college
One owns his own business and he nets 200K and one chefs. Don’t need anything to chef except talent and great masters to work under in great kitchens to cook in.
If you think a college degree is important unless you are studying a specialized field, yo8u are mistaken. I know homeschoolers who are politicians, nurses, cpas, plumbers, teachers, homemakers, homeschoolers, military intellegene officers, military bomber commanders, managers, physicians, osteopaths, builders, carpenters, physical theripists, occupational therapists.....
You are behind the times, I have homeschooled since 1993. Lots has happened. Two of my kids finished their FIRST TWO YEARs of college while in high school.
Degrees are a Waste of money. No one needs degrees to provide customer service, or start a business.
I never relied on public assistance to homeschool, and never met anyone who did.
The last time there were "good" school systems was probably 20 years ago. Seems like the decline had accelerated under Obama.
“they are planning to put the baby in daycare after maternity leave ends.”
Yuck! Definition of a ‘Trophy Child’.
But the thing is, the PARENTS would be far better off raising the kid (assuming they have any idea how to do that), as he’ll turn into a brat if he goes on that path.
...and if he’s a brat, how can the parents explain the kid to other socialites?
Hello again. I was the first person to comment on your first post. Now, I see the conversation has continued... lol.
My kids were homeschooled. It was the best decision I ever made. I want other parents to know homeschooling is an option for most families, including single-parent and/or low-income families.
But, I have to correct you on your assumption that lower-income homeschool families live on the public dole.
I hate when people assume lower-income parents use public assistance. When I first became a single parent, my kids and I lived on $32K/year. I NEVER received food stamps or public assistance. I simply budgeted to the penny. I drove an old car and shopped for bargains. My mortgage (including property tax) was 60% of my income, and I paid it on time every month. Believe it or not, I was able to put some money aside for emergencies, too.
I wouldn’t have struggled financially at all on $32K, if I hadn’t had to pay so much in SCHOOL TAXES. The property tax was 25% of my income and 40% of my mortgage payment. The SCHOOL TAX was 50% to 60% of the property tax. All those years of homeownership combined, I estimate the school district received about $100K from my property.
I understand why parents put their children into public school. After all, you’re forced to pay for it, so you’d might as well. If you don’t want to homeschool, then don’t homeschool.
But, let’s be honest: Public school is a form of public assistance. It’s a welfare program. Our district spent $20K per year per student. Mostly funded by homeowners, at the threat of losing their homes if they didn’t pay up. So, parents who send their children to public school have no business complaining about people on the public dole.
Please see my post #59 above. My income was even lower.
