My Automobile insurance went up 80% for no reason.
me myself and I | algore

Posted on 07/06/2024 5:48:59 PM PDT by algore

I looked in my wallet because the little good angel voice in my head said

"when was the last time you printed out new proof of car insurance forms?"

I looked and saw I need to print new ones, when I logged into the website it said

"We have re-rated your policy for the next 6 months, $xxxx will be deducted from your account on 7/31/2024"

I was like ??? it should be $xxx

I called them and they said "it is not your fault, but we don't know why"

I called my state ins tzar and they said, wow an 80% increase that is a lot, but we are just here to answer phone calls and pretend to be sympathetic, however we have rules that went into effect recently that say you can ask them why and they must tell you, and helpfully gave me the rule numbers which said I had to give them this request in writing.

I went to my ins company website (esurance/allstate) and they had a helpful chat button so I chatted with them about this and they eventually gave me an address and told me to send them a letter.

I told them that my chatting was in writing and to fwd my request to their legal dept.

They then said ok we will send you a letter that has a reason.

They sent me a letter that said your rate increase is due to your Insurance Credit Score.

It also said If you have questions contact LexisNexis about it

https://consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/request

I did not know that there was an specific Ins Credit Score, and did some research, which turned up nothing except that it was kinda/mostly based on your credit score. (my fico score is not an issue)

Today I got my personal lexis report which was 64 pages.

but nothing I really did not expect, and there was nothing negative, and certainly not an ins credit score listed in the report.

I have tried to find other auto ins, but everyone is quoting about the same as my soon to be previous company.

I can self-insure, but that would be annoying.

any ideas on what should I do next ?

you were ok until you looked weren’t you. never look.

not being smart, but with auto pay and cc, we never look and ignorance is bliss. When we wrote the check with the numbers on it, we were more aware.

hate say it,, but I don’t look at a lot of things anymore. happy happy happy

Well you certainly solved the humidity problem by moving to New Mexico!

The illegals are all driving. Usually it is an unregistered car with a fake temporary plate. That’s why they don’t stop when they hit someone.

Here’s a list of states with the percent of drivers who are uninsured. It’s up to 29% in one state.

Make sure you buy a lot of uninsured motorist insurance. Then when you get hit you’ll have to fight your own insurance company for damages.

They want us to stop driving, one way or another. 15 Minute Cities, and all that.

**or drive older cars.**

That’s what my wife and I do.

4 vehicles: 90, 01, 04, and 07

Total monthly: $182.12

The 01 only has liability, plus we live in rural TN.

That’s it exactly: the huge and growing numbers of uninsured drivers. In Chicago, for example, when black or hispanic (recent immigrants in particular) drivers are pulled over or in an accident, they often have no license or a suspended license, and they never, ever have insurance. We’re paying for them, just as we pay for shoplifters.

Maybe Biden’s right. It’s price gouging. Although, Biden’s not right about anything.

It’s also car thefts and things like catalytic converters being cut out and stolen and nothing being dine to the criminals, as usual.

In NY a lot of preferred companies no longer sell policies to new clients because of this, even if they have a spotless record.

Insurance companies are losing millions with loss ratios over 100%

My Automobile insurance went up 80% for no reason.

Do you think insurance is exempt from inflation?

Probably has something to so with your FR handle, algore. You’re simply paying more due to climate change.

Illegal aliens, and also Electric Vehicle owners. They can’t tell you it’s the illegals, and they won’t admit it’s the electric vehicles either.

I just switched to state farm for 144. Down from 300 with allstate. I then noticed that even though I was locked in for 6 months they raised my rate by 120$ per month. They couldn't tell me why.

Several years ago I sent a letter to my then state senator. I suggested he introduce the “I don’t care about your personal problems auto insurance reform bill.”

It would include an automatic 10 year prison sentence for anyone caught driving uninsured.

You’d only have to jail a handful of people until others got the message.

He told me that the democrats would never go along with it. Typical sissy Republican, afraid to step out.
