Ozempic could make you go BLIND warn experts as worrying study finds patients on the drug are more likely to suffer irreversible optic nerve damage

Slimmers were today warned that weight loss jabs could trigger a worrying eye condition causing blindness.

Semaglutide, available as Ozempic and Wegovy, has been hailed as a monumental breakthrough in the war on obesity.

But according to US experts, people with diabetes prescribed semaglutide were four times more likely to be diagnosed with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

And overweight or obese people taking the drugs were seven times more likely to develop the condition, known as an 'eye stroke', than those on other weight-loss medications.

Researchers labelled the findings 'significant but tentative' and urged medics to warn patients of the risk especially if they suffer 'other known optic nerve problems like glaucoma'.

Professor Joseph Rizzo, an expert in ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School said: 'The use of these drugs has exploded throughout industrialised countries and they have provided very significant benefits in many ways.

'But future discussions between a patient and their physician should include NAION as a potential risk.

'It is important to appreciate, however, that the increased risk relates to a disorder that is relatively uncommon.'

NAION, which affects around one in 10,000 people, occurs when the vessels supplying blood to the optic nerves become blocked.

The loss of blood supply deprives the optic nerve of oxygen and results in damage to all or part of the nerve.

Yeah...no.

It doesn’t always work that way.

Six feet tall. 275 pounds. Active lifestyle including 3+ trips to the gym a week. Tracked caloric intake of 1500 calories a day...gained weight.

Not until I was cut back to 900 calories a day did I lose weight. My insurance will not pay for a COMPLETE endocrine work up - it cost about $10K, so I can’t afford it - and they cannot determine the cause without one.

My insurance will pay for Wygovy.

My crazy neighbor who I mention a lot told me today that she hasn’t ate any desserts all week and said she can’t understand why she hasn’t lost weight. LOL

She eats 3 meals a day and eats a lot at those meal. She is way overweight but not super obese.

Is this $1,800/mo drug getting cost-shared across health insurance policies?

There are better ways to control diabetes.

Well, I am sure you know better than all of these doctors.

I should come to you with my medical issues. I’ve been wasting my time with my doctor whom I’ve known and trusted for 35 years. I am such an idiot.

I guess you haven’t paid too much attention to the corruption of the ADA and medical world in general. Low carb diets can pretty much eliminate type 2 diabetes, but that’s the last thing they want.

Low card diet? Wow!! Why hadn’t people thought of that?

It is clear that you have no idea how GLP-1’s work and how they are different than other diabetes medications. The impact of them is just now beginning to be understood.

The benefits will impact addiction treatments, inflammatory diseases, obesity and heart disease.

But, that is only based research—Research that people taking these drugs should understand before starting the injections. But they are not published in Parade Magazine, so that explains why people are not aware of them.

Take a look:

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/ozempic-quiets-food-noise-in-the-brain-but-how/

I am stunned at the idiots who believe that every new medication is bad.
And if you just ate “beets” or “lettuce” you could beat the disease.

Why can’t people benefit from research and drugs?

I saw my share of holier than thou people in the cancer center. Talk about fools who “came to Jesus” real fast.

But yes…Big Pharma is out to kill ya.
