Okay, we had no idea Denzel Washington was starring in “Gladiator 2,” but Vanity Fair has unveiled new first-look photos, and now we’re hooked. The images feature Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Denzel Washington. “Gladiator 2” will be released from Paramount Pictures on November 22, 2024.
Check out a snapshot of the film’s characters in the film’s story that takes place well after the original Russell Crowe story:
Paul Mescal is Lucius, Maximums’ son from the first film, who hasn’t been seen in 15 years and is presumed dead. This likely leads into him becoming a gladiator where, like his father, no one knows who he was in his past life.
Pascal is a military commander turned gladiator as punishment.
Denzel is a former slave who is now a wealthy merchant who does not like the emperors.
Quinn is co-emperor Caracalla who is supposedly trying to portray a character differently from Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus.
Connie Nielsen appears to be the lone returning major cast member from the original, playing Lucius’ mother Lucilla.
Check this out. It’s uncertain if Phoenix or Crowe will appear in flashbacks or dream sequences since they both pretty much died, but the focus is primarily on the new cast and Mescal’s character, Lucius. Photos show Mescal fighting Pascal, suggesting either Pascal’s early demise or a climactic battle scene. Typically, one of the characters should be dead by the end of such a fight unless a thumbs-up from the emperor spares them.

I don’t think he’s ever made a bad movie. Not that I know of, anyway.
I can watch “Remember the Titans” again and again.
“Damn, that dude passes the tranny test. Hard to tell it’s a guy.”
No kidding. First glance was “Wow, is ‘she’ pretty.”
One of the great 80s shows.
Two stretchy thumbs up!
Arrested Development had some of the best writing.
SOAP on steroids with a real budget.
They probably would have come from the Kingdom of Aksum who was a Roman trading partner.
They might have even had a few Indians (dot not feather) because there was sporadic trading with them as well.
What we would consider Oriental or Asian people would have been almost unknown but you might track down one or two.
This already sounds stupid.
I am not much for Hollywood. If more of them were like this guy it might be different.
He has a way about him that is very appealing to viewers.

Sequel or remake? This sounds strikingly like the original. Is there no creativity left anywhere?
Denzel takes on the role similar to Oliver Reed, the wealthy slave merchant who won his freedom.
Pascal sounds very similar to Maximus, military guy who ended up a gladiator and
Mescal (lucius) Correcting the above was not Maximus son, but Lucius Verus’ son - also sounds like Maximus, his idol from before as the Spaniard following a similar arc.
A few minor tweaks and voila, a whole new movie. LOL
Do you like gladiator movies?......
When will there be a remake of “Shaft” starring a White actor?
😂😂😂
I like Denzel but this is more cultural appropriation. We can’t even have white Romans anymore. Give me a break. Will not be watching this ridiculousness.
Someone said on a Lee Van Cleef video on You Tube the other day that they wanted to see a remake of The Good, Bad, Ugly. I had to speak up. Blasphemous.
It took me many years to watch the first Gladiator, but it’s up there as one of my favorites. Love the score. I listen to it to this day. Hans Zimmer is coming to Denver this September. I’ve already missed Echo and The Bunnymen and Hauser this summer. Don’t think I can miss another one. I’ll take my oldest with me if I can get out of my comfort zone and go.
Russell Crowe’s buddy in the first one was an African.
He isn’t.
A remake of that one would only serve to remind everyone how much better the original is.
