United States Lost To Japan In Our Own Game Of Football
Daily Caller ^ | June 26, 2024 | ANDREW POWELL - SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT BLOGGER

This is 100% inexcusable!

The game of football is no longer just an American thing, there are loads of countries nowadays that have national teams for the sport, showing how popular pigskin has become. In fact, they even have youth tournaments in international play, like the U20 World Championships, for example. Nations all around the world are currently trying to lock up a qualifying spot for the event.

And our country, the United States of America, is one of them.

You’d think that we’d be able to roll through a scenario like this with how big the NFL and college football is here, but uhh … I’ve got some news for you. We LOST. To JAPAN. I’m not kidding you, we actually lost a game of American football to Japan, doing so Wednesday. And we didn’t just lose, we got our asses kicked.

We lost, 41-20. It was so bad that we were down 20-0 after the first quarter. Japan slaughtered us the whole way through the game.

In other words, it was F**KING EMBARRASSING!

I don’t even get how this happens.

Or maybe I do, we are the same country that’s collectively obsessed with a chick who likes to “hawk tuah.”

We truly are a nation of idiots, and now here we are losing to Japan in football as a result — weak.

Yeah, but does the Japanese football League celebrate Pride Month and diversity, equity and inclusion?

Without even researching this competition I can work out that the US team contains none of the best players in the country. There is no history of the US treating international football (gridiron version) seriously.

Who did we send? Put together a team of the top rated players in the 247 composite and I promise they won’t beat anybody else in the world by less than 5 touchdowns in any game.

Here is some background on the team from a reddit user

https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/1dpicbh/comment/lah8x95/

“Apparently the QB that played the most today is Anthony Luna, a high school senior who will enroll at Bethany College in West Virginia, a D3 school with 650 students that went 0-10 last season with an average score of 37.7-14.8, and currently on a 19 game losing streak.

The other QB that played is Aliam Appler who is a college freshman at FAU who had “hopes” of walking on but did not make the roster.

The third QB is a 16 year old who is reclassifying back a year from 2025 to 2026 in hopes of getting recruited by anybody.

So….yea

The only players I could find that did anything in this tournament that are in college play at Colorado State Pueblo (D2), West Liberty (D2), and Pennsylvania Western University - Clarion (D2).

This is basically a bunch of guys who aren’t even good enough to get recruited who are hoping for a little bit of glory before hanging up their cleats.”

The Japanese employed unfair kung fu like maneuvers. I mean they can jump unreal lengths and heights. 🤣

Last night Mexico and Venezuela played. I didn’t know who to root for, but that was one of the fastest paced games I’ve ever watched. Frenetic till the last whistle.

When did Venezuela get good at soccer? They are traditionally a baseball country. I noticed they are most likely to qualify for the World Cup, which they have never done, they are actually ahead of Brazil!

It’s a surprise to me, too, but I don’t follow them closely. I was happy to see Argentina beat Chile, because my SIL’s family is from Argentina. They haven’t been big sports fans until recently when we introduced them to soccer, and because of Messi, they are finally getting the thrill of watching games. It’s exciting to watch new fans learn about sports.

It was! I bet that stadium was filled with foreigners from both countries, with few English speakers.

Now if only we could have American fields that are actual grass instead of temporary grass on top of turf. The World Cup comes in two years, so this is a wake up call. These poor field conditions with temporary grass installed two days before a match is total nonsense. There’s time after the NFL season is finished to do this right. What we have now is an embarrassment.
