In the aftermath of losing the Men's College World Series to Tennessee on Monday, Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle was adamant that he would "never" leave the program for another job.
On Tuesday, Schlossnagle agreed to leave Texas A&M to take over the baseball program at Texas. Schlossnagle and the Longhorns confirmed the news Tuesday night, following multiple reports.
In three seasons in College Station, Schlossnagle led the Aggies to three NCAA tournament appearances and two trips to the College World Series. Texas A&M fell one win short of a national title in the best-of-three championship series this week.
Here's Schlossnagle when asked about the proposition of leaving Texas A&M after losing the winner-take-all Game 3 on Monday:
"I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again and that hasn't changed in my mind." - Jim Schlossnagle last night after the College World Series
He has yet to win a national championship. If he does, it won't happen with Texas A&M. The Longhorns and Aggies will face off as SEC rivals starting next season.

Everyone has a price.
Everyone should remember this situation when a player for their favorite team enters the transfer portal and leaves, the players recruited to A&M to play for Schlossnagal have to feel lied to and abused
Florida could use some of those players.
You have to feel a bit sorry for A&M. I hope that they take Texas to the cleaners next year.
A&M played great. Tennessee was just better (with some fantastic plays). Great series.
Exactly. He meant never leave for less than I am making now.
Texas has their own Lincoln Rily now. May they both have equal success....
“the players recruited to A&M to play for Schlossnagal have to feel lied to and abused”
And because of the transfer portal that’s a two way street.
Between that and rules on athletes accepting benefits and earning money for their name, image and likeness has for better or worse has changed college athletics forever.
Gators went from barely making the post-season (1 game over .500), to the Final Four in Omaha. It was a great run.
Going to miss Cag’s bat, though, next season.
No question and if it helps the Gators I’m for it but it does make any level of athletics less enjoyable to me
Coaches are always talking buying into the program while selling themselves to the highest bidder at another school
If Kevin O’Sullivan left UF for FSU or another rival in the same manner Gator fans would be rightfully outraged
True but coaches have been doing this same thing for years before the current NIL or portal system
I do agree, and I was hoping that College Baseball at least would be free of all that crap, but I guess not.
He was negotiating with Texas while coaching the CWS. How could he be 100% focused?
Good negotiator. Probably got Texas to add another bucket of cash to the deal.
Sort of like a preacher trying to discern whether he hears a call to move to a new church.
And to think on the message boards during the regular our usual cast of idiot fans were screaming for Florida to get rid of O’Sullivan.
Can’t wait for the leaked video of him giving the big pep speech about ‘integrity’ to his players...
I watched all three games. The slide in to home by Hunter Ensley was epic!
Yep! Ensley leaving eye black on the wall was also great.
When Bevo calls, you pick up the phone.
He did that after the game on Monday when a reporter asked him about the Texas job, he sounded indignant and said he left his family to build the Aggies and less than 24 hours later was on a stage in Austin accepting the Texas job and how proud he was being a Longhorn, it’s not unique for A&M or UT it’s the current state of college athletics and has been for a long time
