You can have half the recurrence of back pain, just by regularly walking.

Isn’t the usual prescription for pain to sit in one place all day while complaining about how much it hurts?

Walking about 5 miles a day will typically do you a world of good. And it’s as easy as walking.

Running is a back killer... I knew a kid who ran daily when he was a teen... By the time he was in his 20s he needed back operations to fix the damage done.

Jim Fixx wrote the ‘Complete Book of Running’... What he didn’t tell you is how much damage it would do to your back, and in the end he died aged 52 from a heart attack. All the running and walking in the world can’t help you with the bad genes that you’ve inherited. His father died of a heart attack too.

Bicycling does too without nearly as much stress on the hips and knees. Both are good for maintaining balance but I think bicycling is better.

I’ve found that standing still for an extended period aggravates my low back pain. Walking does not.

Most people with back pain can’t walk 10 steps without experiencing excruciating back pain — to which these “experts” will say, “That’s your problem — you need to walk 10,000 steps per day.”

Naturally their clients will say, “Just let me die.”

I have found simple core-strengthening exercises help immensely

start very slow/light and work up gradually.

Most of my back pain is caused when I walk my dog on a leash and he decides to chase a rabbit and drag me along....

Lol.

I started walking after easily throwing out my back while doing yard work (I’m 62). Walk the dog a mile and a half and then get on the treadmill for another 2.5 miles about 4/5 times a week and I haven’t thrown out my back since.

I concur. Walking is the BEST exercise for whatever ails you. (If you are mobile to begin with, of course!)

I have a new batch of PUPPIES and they are to the point where I can soon take them along on my daily morning walks.

The cat likes to go, too!

I have had some VERY serious back-going-out episodes in the past, to the point of being injected with Demerol. Ugh! I was ‘walking’ but my brain new for SURE that I SHOULD NOT BE WALKING!

I NEVER want to go back to that, for sure.

Walking worked well for me for a few years but now it back surgery next week.

No discs left in the lowest 3 vertebra now, getting them separated and fused.

I'm 61...I gave my back hell as a mechanic, it's been bad for years.

Get your back x-rayed.

I walk 90 minutes every morning. Another reason is that walking is very rhythmical so cures many aliments.

Lets say you burn 1000 calories chopping wood or walking. Walking is better due to the rhythmical part PLUS you are strengthening your legs. Which are all important. Preserve and defend your legs, knees, ankles is the best health advice I can give.
