Whoops, the author is incorrect, that was residue from an earlier, unrelated attempt (FR rejected the source; that one was from a different part of the world and unrelated to this). S/B “Unattributed”.

Thanks for another great post. My property is wash with quartz crystal and the prospect of someone carving a blade like that is fascinating. It would take a bit of patience.

It would be tough. I sometimes wonder how many prehistoric knappers wound up with eye patches. :^)

Crystal Dagger. Sounds like the title of a fantasy novel.

(But great find!)

“This N24hr is a pretty sketchy site.”

I’m glad you caught that too. Some of the articles read like the Globe tabloid. Even this article has some discrepancies. Wonder if it was rewritten and republished by an AI bot? This is going to start happening and goof up our perspective.

“a group of Spanish experts discovered incredible ROCK CRYSTAL weaponry.”

“What about the dagger made of crystal? It was recovered alone in a different compartment, “together with an ivory hilt and scabbard.” The 8.5-inch long blade is designed like other daggers from the time era “(the difference, of course, is that those daggers were made of flint, and this one IS GLASS)”.

“According to specialists, the crystal dagger was made from a single block OF GLASS measuring 20 cm long and 5 cm thick.”

“Because there were no CRYSTAL MINES nearby, the ingredients for these constructions had to be sourced from afar.”

“It’s also worth noting that none of the GUNS belong to a single individual; rather, everything indicates that they were designed for group use.”

I figured you would catch it too.

Cool incredible find for sure anyhow, thanks for sharing it!

Does nobody read eldritch horror anymore? Nothing good comes from screwing with 5000 year old crystal daggers in hidden tombs. ;)

How beautiful. I wonder who it belonged to.

Btw; in reading the article I found this under the last paragraph (Glass weapons have a particular connotation):

“none of the guns belong to a single individual; rather, everything indicates that they were designed for group use”.

‘GUNS’?

I found another source, CNN of all things:

Crystal dagger, other items buried with ‘Ivory Lady’ 5,000 years ago

https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/08/world/ivory-lady-science-newsletter-wt-scn/index.html
European archaeologists made a “spectacular” find in 2008 of a tomb near Seville, Spain, that belonged to an ancient individual of great importance.

New research just revealed the discovery was even more unexpected than they realized.

The 5,000-year-old skeleton uncovered in Spain was buried with the crystal dagger shown above and other valuable items. But the individual, initially dubbed the “Ivory Man,” is actually the “Ivory Lady.”

A new method that involves analyzing tooth enamel was used to confirm that the skeleton belonged to a woman, and it has changed the way scientists interpret the entire site.

The Ivory Lady, who possibly held a leadership role, was likely revered by her society for generations after she died. Graves spanning 200 years after her death encircle the woman’s tomb.

I suspect that this article is a somewhat funky translation from Spanish.

I didn’t see that, but it doesn’t surprise me, it’s a copycat/clickbait website like so many others. :^(

There’s another story on the site about something found in Oklahoma that clearly wasn’t found there, and another about a meteorite with hieroglyphic writing on it — they then use photos of some Egyptian artifacts instead of the imaginary thing they’re discussing.
