(Vanity) Are you guys really okay with Bob Good losing? Trump endorsement related
Me

Posted on 06/19/2024 7:01:22 AM PDT by ksm1

I've been on FR since the Bush years, first as a lurker and then more active during Obama and the initial Tea Party movement. Throughout that time, there always has been active and for the most part respectful debate on FR, that sometimes got a bit heated but we all basically wanted the same thing for the country, even if it meant different ways to get there.

With the Trump years, I was skeptical of Trump at first in 2016 since he was an unknown, but then he won me over when he was actually President. You can find my posts from his years in office where I defended him. That said - there was enough left on the table, like a number of bad hires who kept undermining him, that I wanted to see a competitive primary and a candid discussion on both his record and what would be different this time around if he gets the nod.

Well that's when things got weird. We never had that discussion. It just became a yelling match, and if I wanted to do that, I'd just go join those Palestine weirdos on college campuses. No thanks.

Guys, Bob Good had an excellent 100% conservative voting record. Trump primaried him for his one and only crime which was endorsing DeSantis, even though after the primary, Bob Good came to visit Trump during his trial in NYC.

This isn't giving me any confidence that Trump has learned from his mistakes of bad hires and bad endorsements. We should have completely dominated the 2022 midterms but a number of bad endorsements sabotaged us. Dr. Oz? Seriously? Yes Arizona had some shady things with their election, but there were a bunch of other cases where Trump endorsed a weak candidate - OR, he's been backing people who DO win and then vote RINO when it counts. We can't keep saying "we want better people in Congress" and then let things like this slide.

Why I care: the grassroots activist right has always played an important role. I saw during the Bush years on FR that we'd organize campaigns to write letters to Congress to push for our values. Same during the Obama years, which is how we prevented Obama from doing a lot of gun grabbing and so forth. There was minimal of that during the Trump years. It was just "trust the plan". This isn't helpful. Politics was meant to be an active process that citizens participate in. During the Trump years, it seemed to turn into just a spectator sport. That's not how this is supposed to work.

Is this really what we want, no real political power because we actively are pushing RINOs into office to replace conservatives, but at least we "own the libs" with snarky internet remarks? Is this really the best we can do? And look, I know the left is unfairly attacking Trump, but Trump or ANY Republican needs to get pressured from the right as well, so he actually does what we want. I know the left is going to attack Trump, or anyone to the right of Rachel Maddow for that matter, but it's really getting frustrated that any pressure for accountability *from the right* is dismissed or actively trolled.

Bob Good shouldn't have even been in a competitive race. He was as solid as they get. This is getting ridiculous.

Plenty of us here openly state the fact that Trump likes winners, and his endorsements are not usually MAGA/America First, but whoever is likely to win. Whether or not there is vindictiveness in some of this, like potentially in the Endorsement of Good’s opponent, is unknown to me and likely all of us here.

Trump does not pick good people, he picks “winners” and “ring kissers”
anyone that got behind Desantis being black listed/targets of political moves like this would be an absolute full retard move by Trump and his team. Desantis is obviously more Conservative then Trump, and some people prefer that.

This and the Vax push are the two worse things about his Presidency. His first stint in the swamp obviously didn’t teach him a damn thing about how important personnel picks are. Yes, I am well aware Mitch blocked most of his important picks, but Mitch didn’t bring that loser scaramuchi in, or endorse back stabbing rinos over Freedom Caucus people.

I would add Trumps inherent anti wokeness to those other two issues
This is all a fight for western civilization as much as it is preserving the constitution

And drill and pump

That is flat out a lie. desanctomonious is a deep state stooge, just like "conservative" Pence turned out to be.

If Bob good is so great how come he got sucked in by DeSantis? Why on earth would he not support Trump all the way? Anybody throwing in with DeSantis becomes suspect in my book.

Unlike Roosevelt who came in after the depression was thoroughly pinned on President Hoover, it may be that Trump will not escape the wrath of the public for the debacle that comes when the government crashes because the debt simply swaps us

Good volunteered to be Trump’s example that less than total loyalty will not and cannot be tolerated. It is a shame that the sour music stopped and Good has no chair to sit on but he DiD do this to himself.

Before Trump, I used to like the freedom caucus, and in all honesty, I still like what they say they stand for.

However, during Trump's term, from day 1 they did everything they could to hamstring Trump from passing conservative wishlist items while taking on the mantle of the "real conservatives®️" who would keep "liberal" Trump honest.

Much like Biden revoked Trump's insulin cap so he could claim credit for it, they didn't seem like they wanted to give Trump the win.

I swear if I heard, "we just aren't there, yet" one more time from the freedom Caucus during Trump's term, I was going to throw something through the TV.

Yeah, I know this will piss people off, but so be it.

They held up obamacare repeal, they blocked Trump's infrastructure bill, and they blocked any compromises Trump sought with the dems or the rest of the gop who wanted to make a deal. They did this all while yelling they were doing it to keep Trump "conservative." They did it until they got strong pushback from their voters to support Trump( the same with McConnell who folded and struck a compromise with Trump on pushing judges through the senate) then Ryan was able to throw the house in the 2018 midterms, and when they were out of power and the dems were in, they switched to fully supporting Trump.

Never mind all the voters in PA, MI, WI, OH, and other places that weren't hard-core conservatives.

And do really need to discuss Mark Meadows?

Then, after the 2020 election was stolen, up they popped with Desantis to try to take the "true conservative" mantle and the "maga" mantle.

Frankly, at this point, I'm not particularly fond of the freedom caucus, and if their chairman lost his primary, I say, "So what? They did it to themselves."

Maybe they can write a strongly worded letter to Trump about their disappointment in his endorsement.

.

I can’t speak to Trump’s endorsements. But hiring is a two-way street. Trump could pick everyone you ever wanted. But it’s up to them to agree to join his administration. If it’s picking from among applicants, the best people have to apply. What if the picks say ‘no’? What if the best don’t apply? Whose fault is that?

I think Trump will do better the next time. I think better candidates for positions will apply and accept. We’ll see!

So you’re fine with a less conservative Congress because Trump got his feelings hurt.

Trump and his Magadonians are NOT #AmericaFirst. They’re about cultish, slavish devotion to one person. WE — actual conservatives — are the real “America first” patriots.

2. If Good can’t realistically win, there’s no point in endorsing him.

He is the incumbent, so he can realistically win, because he has. He is also head of the House Freedom Caucus.

Good was one of us.

Speak for yourself.

I am NEVER-Ron. Since the outset of this 2024 race my metric has been binary: Trump or no one. Given that measure, to me Good's DeSantis support means he is a saboteur or stupid — either way, he tore up his "one of us" card. And yes, that is my assessment of every single DeSantite.
