Caitlin Clark was smacked on the head by Angel Reese and subjected to more rough treatment by her Chicago Sky rivals on Sunday, causing Dave Portnoy to lead the outrage.
Clark and the Indiana Fever played Chicago on Sunday for the first time since the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft was brutally bodychecked by Chennedy Carter earlier this month.
The Fever won that first meeting 71-70 on June 1 but the game was overshadowed by Sky guard Carter's hip-check foul on Clark before an inbounds play.
It was ruled a common foul, only to be upgraded to a flagrant-one foul the day after the game.
But, on Sunday, it didn't take long for Clark to be targeted by Reese, Carter and their Sky teammate Dana Evans again.

Let’s be honest... this surge of resentment against Clark and its associated violence is a news event, and it’s boosting viewership and attendance. It’s in the financial interest of the team and the league that it should continue.

I think the Chicago Sky would be more at home playing hockey or roller derby. Playing basketball seems to be secondary to assaulting other players.

This reminds me of the scene in the movie Heaven Can Wait where Warren Beatty's character, an NFL quarterback who was prematurely taken to heaven by an angel is returned to earth in a multi-millionaire's body.As the millionaire, Beatty buys his former NFL team and demands a tryout for the QB position. During his tryout, the team conspires to undermine him and the offensive line refuses to block and lets the defense through to tackle Beatty over and over.
In real life, I believe this also happened to Tim Tebow when he was traded to the New York Jets in 2012. Either the Jets were just a bad team, or the offensive line refused to protect Tebow, because he was never given the protection he needed to give him time to complete passes to receivers.
I fear the same thing is going to happen to Clark. Her teammates either will not protect her or are too poor players to get open to receive passes, and will let the other team swarm Clark until one day she gets critically injured and can no longer play.
Some folks apparently don’t understand the difference between rules based basketball and jungleball. Thanks to integration, I learned that in junior high.
I’m guessing most of the folks complaining about ‘rough play’ went to white schools.
There are reasons that Black girls play basketball and white girls play volleyball in college.

I agree. I played basketball for years and still watch the college game. Anyone who thinks basketball is a non-contact sport is living in the 50’s. Some of the shots she’s been taking are cheap, but that one actually looked like Angel, who I’m no fan of, was going for the ball and missed. Saw the same thing in a men’s college game this year. A guy went up to block a shot and missed and his arm came down across the other player’s face. They called a flagrant foul, pure BS.
