Is the WNBA Afraid of Caitlin Clark?

I started playing golf after my father’s elder brother introduced me to the game during the summer of 1985, when I turned 14. Like millions of others, however, I started watching golf only because of Tiger Woods.

Uncle Larry was a military veteran who lived in suburban Washington, which gave him access to the nearby Andrews Air Force Base, where your tax dollars maintain two spectacular 18-hole championship golf courses frequented by service men and women, federal workers, presidents and in my case lucky nephews. In the 1980s and 1990s, golf was perceived mainly as a diversion for country club types, and while Mr. Woods wasn’t the first black professional golfer, his success has done more than anyone before or since to broaden the sport’s appeal. Along the way, he made professional golf far more lucrative for his fellow competitors. In 1996, the year Mr. Woods turned pro, purses on the PGA Tour totaled $68 million. By 2018 that number had climbed to $363 million, and it had everything to do with the eyeballs that Mr. Woods attracted to the game and the advertising dollars that followed.

“The tournaments he played in shattered attendance marks throughout the world and consistently set viewership records on television,” Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian wrote in their biography of Mr. Woods. “At the height of Tiger’s career, golf beat the NFL and the NBA in Nielsen ratings.” And in the process of making the sport more popular, “he helped make multimillionaires of more than four hundred Tour pros.”

There’s a lesson here for women’s basketball, yet the league seems to be in no danger of learning it. In terms of popularity, WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark is the Tiger Woods of her sport. She left college as the NCAA’s all-time scoring leader for women and men.

She’s quite melanin deprived.

Racism with heterophobia is not a good look for a league in desperation for solvency.

I don't think Adam Silver cares. He'll rather be woke than to expand the business in the WNBA.

A whitey showing all the big mouthed posers up. Isn’t there a law against that yet?

I’ve never watched one minute of it. Just not interested in a bunch of nappy headed lesbians taking jump shots. I am enjoying reading about the stupid phony hypocritical wokesters being totally shown up by a white chick though.

Even though Rush Limbaugh adored him, I'm no fan of Eldrick Woods--I refuse to use his nickname. I lost all respect for him when he made up a story about being bullied by his white classmates in kindergarten--a story that his teacher and classmates said was untrue.

They had a moment of dyxlexia when they created the league. It was supposed to be the NWBA, for No White Bitches Allowed.

Well, if Kaitlin wants to be accepted by the lesbian-black-league-women,

she could help her cause by...

meeting them half-way, and...

becoming lesbian or at least doing lesbian things part of the time...

Yeah, she can’t become black, but the lesbian thing...

would be half-way.

It’s like the old saying: When in Rome, do as the Romans.

She's from Iowa. And from a good family. So they won't be able to pressure her into becoming a lesbian.

I’ll make four observations:

1. WNBA crowd numbers for 2023...averaged at 6,615 per game. NBA? Just over 18,000 per game. Clark and the Heat for this season? Selling out almost every home game (17k seats).

2. If you sit down and watch an entire WNBA game (big-screen TV)...you will quietly notice a ton of turning the ball over, and traveling situations...none of which are called by the refs. I can probably count a minimum of 30 occasions per game. It’s to the point of bothering me....this crappy style of play, and the officials do nothing about it.

3. Watching after-the-game interviews...very few of the WNBA players can articulate what happened or provide analysis of the play. It’s like asking 4th grade kids what happened and you get stupid commentary. Rolling of eyes in these interviews? You probably see this at least three or four times for each interview.

4. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think Clark will last 2 seasons and exit the WNBA (retire), and a year later...be part of a start-up ABA-like league (out of Iowa, Kansas and Missouri) and drop all connectivity to the NBA or WNBA...finding that various networks are more interested in it...than the WNBA. After 3 years of this...half the teams in the WNBA are folding up...economically unable to operate with the lackluster crowds.

Nah. She should coach at Iowa (or at one of the states in the Great Plains).

Caitlin should have a meeting with her teammates, who haven’t really have her back, and tell them that she will get them in commercials if they help to protect her and work to be like the team she had in Iowa. They would start to win and they could make big money. The girls in Iowa kept giving her the ball, which got someone open. They need to do that now.

If that does not work, demand her coach to be fired. Otherwise, ask for a trade.

This reminds me of the scene in the movie Heaven Can Wait where Warren Beatty's character, an NFL quarterback who was prematurely taken to heaven by an angel is returned to earth in a multi-millionaire's body.

As the millionaire, Beatty buys his former NFL team and demands a tryout for the QB position. During his tryout, the team conspires to undermine him and the offensive line refuses to block and lets the defense through to tackle Beatty over and over.

In real life, I believe this also happened to Tim Tebow when he was traded to the New York Jets in 2012. Either the Jets were just a bad team, or the offensive line refused to protect Tebow, because he was never given the protection to give him time to complete passes to receivers.

I fear the same thing is going to happen to Clark. Her teammates will not protect her, are too poor players to get open to receive passes, and will let the other team swarm Clark until one day she gets critically injured and can no longer play.

Joey: Wait a minute. I know you. You're Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. You play basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roger Murdock: I'm sorry, son, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I'm the co-pilot.
Joey: You are Kareem! I've seen you play. My dad's got season tickets.
Joey: I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense.
[Kareem gets angry] Joey: And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.
Roger Murdock: [breaking character] The hell I don't! LISTEN, KID! I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night! Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!

In a word YES they are. Their black lesbian privilege is being threatened by a white heterosexual better player.

How could anybody be afraid of her? It’s HATE! She is White and Straight, plus she won’t bow down in abject submission begging forgiveness for being White and Straight.

But she’s just a symbol. The true target is ALL Whites and Straights who won’t kiss the ground under the feet of our new masters, the lgbtcrap+ mob.
