(Kitco News) – The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) shocked international markets and their own financial institutions on Thursday when it announced that China’s yuan would replace the U.S. dollar as the benchmark for all currency trades in the country.
The announcement was one of several issued by the CBR during a frantic day of activity that saw the Moscow Exchange (MOEX) suspend trading in dollars and euros following a new series of U.S. sanctions in response to Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The big guy didn’t get his 10% from this action.
The bedrock of US strategic relations since Nixon was “do not drive Russia and China together.” Kissinger and Brzezinski (who especially was not a friend of Russia) warned this constantly.
This was US strategic fear even when China was militarily and economically weak.
US neocons, the MIC and their Democrat friends abandoned this policy at a time when China has become a peer economic, military and technological power, and Russia has reformed and recovered from its post-Soviet collapse.
