It seems strange to celebrate this CIA director’s birthday.

He won’t be attending or appreciating it.

He was in charge when the Soviet Union dismantled their nukes. Be thankful it wasn’t Dukakis.

He has his place in history as a president.

I know the Bushes are too liberal for us, here on Free Republic. But he is still an historic figure and has ties to Houston, so they want to honor him.

Jim “Mattress Mac” McIngvale

Do I really want to know how he got that nickname?

Bush Senior wasn't that bad a president, but like Bush Junior he was weak. Senior coudn't make a good case for reelecting him. Junior was lost and unassertive and just crumbled up at the end of his presidency.

More and more it becomes clear that politicians are actors and puppets and empty suits. They read the lines people write for them and then do the things the bureaucracy and their advisors tell them to do.

It appeared that he was "old" in '92. But his biggest mistake was "read my lips, no new taxes."

Junior was lost and unassertive and just crumbled up at the end of his presidency.

Dubya wanted to be liked. The media was vicious with him just like we see them handling Donald Trump today.

We native Houstonians are part amphibian, as we don’t so much as breathe as swallow our air like water.
