Woke culture declares war on beauty
American Thinker ^ | 10 Jun, 2024 | Eric Utter

As WKRG reported, 23-year-old Atmore resident Sara Milliken won Miss Alabama on her third try over Memorial Day weekend. The morbidly obese Milliken claimed her goal was only to make the top 10 after failing even to place in her previous two attempts. Yet, she is now Miss Alabama. A few days later, despite an array of stunningly beautiful, charming, and intelligent women to choose from in the Miss Maryland USA pageant, the contest’s judges awarded the crown to a biological male who goes by the name of Bailey Anne Kennedy. How did this happen? You know the answer as well as I do: wokeness run amok. This is part and parcel of the perverse leftist desire to render the meaning of words moot… and worse yet, to strip everything of any meaning whatsoever. Their desire to excuse their own proclivities and behavior, whatever it may be, impels them to attempt to destroy the very concepts of decency, “better,” and good and evil… that they may not be judged here on this earth. (And, since they typically do not believe in God, they think they are home free.) This is a deliberate attempt to make a mockery of judgements, competition, the sacredness of male and female complementarity, beauty… and God himself. Make no mistake, the Left is engaged in an all-out war on beauty, excellence, and decency. This, in turn, is part of its larger War on Truth.

This may have little to do with politics or wokeness.

Who stands to gain by "celebrating" obesity?

Big pharma and big fabric.

Fabric is sold buy the yard.

Big soap and body wash.

It takes more to clean all of that flab and fabric.

Probably more I'm not thinking of.

"More likely, there are people (in the minority here) who are being led by the nose swallowing Leftist manipulation and accepting it at face value."

No one on this thread is being led by leftist manipulation. But, thanks to the press, many of us were fooled into thinking it was the Miss America pageant. Right after a man won Miss Maryland USA, many of us saw this story about "Miss Alabama."

I'm thankful for Ikeon's post #12 telling us it's a different pageant. It doesn't sound like a left-leaning organization. It simply looks like an organization that runs fun pageants for girls as young as 4 years old, with age categories up to 24. The contestants pay $650 to join, and there are multiple categories to win. Some people think it's a scam. To me, it sounds like the modern-day equivalent of "charm school." Its website talks about teaching confidence.

I agree that beauty pageants should celebrate physical perfection. But, this is a different kind of program.

I know what you mean. I feel a lot of sadness about it.

I regret that I am unable to find a way to make these young people understand, with some of the things they are fully on board with (many but not all) they are forging the chains of their own bondage.

They just don’t know it.

I understand. But knowing the Left as I do, the fact that it is the “America Miss Pageant” versus the “Miss America Pageant” is in all likelihood no coincidence. Is anyone surprised that people confuse this? I’m not. As I said, I would put $1000 on the table as a bet and go out on the street and ask people at random what they think of “The America Miss Pageant”, and I have zero doubt the vast majority of people would say things like “I don’t think they should have women parading in swim suits” or “Why should there be a contest for something as subjective as good looks?”

It doesn’t take much imagination to visualize how the founders, organizers, and the supporters of the “Miss America Pageant” must have felt when these people came out with “The America Miss Pageant”.

I have to think that there are lot of people who invested time and money both at the state and national levels, and saw time, money, and effort being siphoned away into “The America Miss Pageant”...and had an issue with it.

They could have named it “The American Girl Pageant” or any number of things.

My issue is not in support of “The Miss America Pageant” in any way. My issue is that people set up the “America Miss Pageant” did this deliberately to either piggyback on the widespread knowledge or following of it, or to subvert it, it could be either.

But I don’t think it was a coincidence, and I suspect there was anger over it.

And as for being “led by the nose”, I think people who just accept that this thing has a completely different focus and that was what it has been stood up for, are playing into the hands of people who want people to think that. Never mind they let transsexuals participate fully as women. And, by the way, it was in response to people on this thread who belittled people who had conflated the two things.

My point is that the people who stood up the “America Miss Pageant” had exactly that conflation in mind, in my opinion. That is exactly what they wanted people to do.

And I will modify my stance in my original post about her intentions, particularly, my characterization as an “ideological” participant.

She may have been doing it for the scholarship or prize money, and there are plenty of women who have participated in “The Miss America Pageant” for just those reasons.

In that perspective it I cannot support the statement that I reject the possibility that she is a good person. There are a lot of people who do more for far less. So I definitely retract that statement.

I was looking at it from my suspicion of where “The American Miss Pageant” had its origins, and was focused on that unfairly to her detriment.

Lucifer always hated Adam from the Beginning.

He Hates the Image, and used Wom-Man Eve to murder him-Adam.

This is going down, by The Blood Line. One Way.

There might be an issue with this NAM pageant, but not a leftist agenda. I’ll explain...

Bear with me here... I was never a girly girl, and I raised boys, so I’m just learning more about these pageants now.

I doubt the Miss America pageant ever cared about this “National American Miss” (NAM) pageant. There are a gazillion little “pageants” for girls and different types of women. Some of them use “America” or “American” in their title. For example, there’s also a “US American Miss” pageant that appears to be an entirely different organization from NAM.

I can’t find much information on NAM outside of its website. NAM is not on the list of beauty pageants on Wikipedia, either. However, I did see some online comments asking if NAM is a scam. Apparently, NAM mails out flyers soliciting contestants. It has multiple age categories from 4 to 24 and many smaller contests such as “Miss Personality” and so on. In the NAM guidebook, I found that each contestant must cough up a whopping $710 to participate. The state winner receives $850 in cash awards ONLY IF a minimum of 20 finalists compete in her age division. It sounds kind of shady, doesn’t it?

It reminds me of something that happened many years ago: A book publisher placed an ad saying it was publishing a poetry book. If you wanted your poem considered, you mailed it in. Then, the publisher mailed letters to the poets “accepting” their poems. The publisher squished hundreds of poems into one book, and then, it sold the books... to the poets themselves, who, of course, would want to see their poem published in a book. Then, it mailed each poet an invitation to a convention to celebrate their publication together... for a price. Then, it sent the poets letters about the next book, and so on. (No, I wasn’t one of the poets.) No harm done, if you want to be a poet, and you don’t mind paying for the book your poetry is in, and you think a convention might be fun.

The same is true for this NAM pageant: No harm done, if you don’t mind paying a fortune (or raising the money) to be in a pageant. These girls enjoy dressing up and performing on stage. NAM promises a fun experience including parties. The girls might even be able to leverage the whole experience to their advantage.

Also, this NAM story reminds me of another story posted on FR many years ago. It was about little league baseball. IIRC, one team was booted from a tournament (?) because it was beating all the other teams badly. You can imagine how freepers reacted - baseball is supposed to be competitive. But, then, one of the coaches came onto FR and posted an explanation. He said his team belonged to a recreational league, but this winning team belonged to a competitive league. IOW, they weren’t supposed to be playing against teams in the recreational league. It would be like a major league team playing minor league games, just for practice. That would disrupt everything.

The Miss America pageant isn’t threatened by the NAM. They’re not even in the same league. One is a major league pageant. The other is recreational league - for fun.

If the sexual weirdo community was judging a ‘male beauty contest’ they would NOT choose the fat man.

These judges are liberals who hate women and hate the men who find women desirable.

I tend to agree with you. Look at adds an manikins in store windows - mostly fat women.

A real head turner for me is a woman with a normal figure, within normal weight standards.
