A 71-year-old woman who was found dead inside her home had been fatally mauled by a black bear...
Patrice Miller’s body was discovered inside her Downieville home in November last year by police who had been called to carry out a welfare check.
Officers discovered a grisly scene with evidence that a bear had been inside, likely for several days, feeding on the woman’s remains.

I’m thinking that bear was extra hungry and desperate, or just sick in the head.
some will- most will not- some bears are just killers for whatever reason- hunger, sickness, getting older, and other reasons
I knew this about grizzlies/kodiaks/brown bears. I did not know it about black bears. My husband used to live in Alaska; many people told him of the bears there stalking people as prey.
OK, go for it. I hope the bear has a good time.

Patrice Miller was found dead in her Downieville home, along with signs of a bear encounter. At the time, the Sierra County Coroner believed she had been mauled posthumously. The recently completed report by the Placer County pathologist, however, tells a different story: Miller was mauled to death after a black bear entered her home.
We have black bears here in Oklahoma, about 100 miles to the southeast of us, in the hills. Never heard of anyone being attacked by one, though. We saw one in the southwest Missouri hills a few years ago.
Isn’t this the time of year that young male cubs are being pushed out of the older male’s territory so have to start hunting for their own area to dominate?
