The more self-actualized you become, the higher you are on self-righteousness, blaming other people’s problems on their failure to be as healthy as you.
OK, this is going to sound a little hypocritical, as I have hard-recommended every activity and pursuit, every wellness wheeze and rejuvenation exercise the modern world has dreamed up. […]
But there is a dark side to wellness, which I always, for shorthand, thought of as political: getting fit makes you more rightwing. The mechanism is incredibly simple: you embark on this voyage of self-improvement, and more or less immediately see results. You feel stronger and more energetic, probably your mood lifts, and pretty soon you think you are master of your own destiny. You’re still not, by the way: destiny does not care about your step count. But until that fact catches up with you, which it may never, there you are, high on self-righteousness. You can tell this has happened to you when you start inhaling performatively, like the hero of an Ayn Rand novel.
Inescapably, you start to situate other people’s problems within their failure to be as fit as you. This is particularly true if you don’t know them and they’re just a bunch of numbers. All those statistics — depressed people, obese people, people with IBS — imagine how much better they would be if only they took responsibility for their health, the way that you have.
And yet that harsh, judgmental inner voice will never be satisfied just shouting at numbers, so sooner or later you’ll turn it back on yourself. Fitness has a capitalist logic — I guess because there’s so much money in it? — so nothing is ever enough. …

James O'Keefe EXPOSES ABC News. Same **** different day.
Asterisks mine.
Deep States, plural, like their citizenry impaired, ignorant, and ill.
Don’t oblige.
“...getting fit makes you more rightwing...”
So that’s why lefties are so out of shape, limp wristed punks. I always suspected they were unfit because of their slothfulness (and all the other deadly sins).
It also explains why most democrats are on welfare. Too lazy to work. /spit
“If it feels good, do it”(?)...Being in good health feels pretty damned good. Don’t mind if I do!
Exercise improves blood flow to the brain. Zoe should try it.
Sounds like a meta culpa — it’s happened to her and she is shocked.
...So now you’re almost your best self, except you could always be better, and this is when you start eating protein the whole time....
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh dear, not PROTEIN!
Because protein is the macronutrient of fascism.
That puts it best. “You” peppers every sentence like a poorly written 7th grade paper. Miss Manners on her worst day in Composition 101 would have done better dead drunk.
I had to check if this was from the Babylon Bee.
Bkmk
No, it is the exact opposite of this.
The more self-actualised--or enlightened--one becomes, the more one understands other people and their struggles toward the realization that we are all at one with God and the more merciful, understanding, and supporting of others one becomes. One actually becomes less self-righteous, less inclined to blame others for their difficulties, less self-important, and more healthy in every way.
The pathway to enlightenment or self-actualization is the pathway to truth, love, joy, beauty, kindness, and understanding, viz. the pathway to God.
Enlightenment, or self-actualization, is the awareness of God. It's that simple.
No matter how good your argument, I am still not going to lift weights.
Indeed. It seems doubtful that the fitness-freak, self-idolizing class (particularly the 18-30 somethings) is thinking much about socioeconomic issues.
So wellness and getting fit equal rightwing? Self-improvement, strength, energy, mood elevation, and the mastering of one's own destiny are rightwing?
This seems to be a strong argument in favor of becoming rightwing.
It seems to me that the greatest expression of love is the encouragement to be the best person one can possibly be in every way, whether one's spouse, children, parents, friends or complete strangers.
What could possibly be more loving than to encourage everyone to be his or her very best?
What could be a greater aspiration than to struggle to be the very best person that you can possibly be, in every way?
Can't have that kind of thing, in Leftistville. Because that goes against her religion that makes government the master of her destiny.
Hahahahahaha!
Her last paragraph:
"...In the fullness of time, I realise it’s not really a question of an unwitting slide into fascism, hastened by a treadmill. It’s more that there is a fixed amount of excellence in any self, and the more you spend on your biceps, the less you have for your personality. Wellness could turn you into a bit of a jerk, is what I’m saying.
There is a cure for being out of shape, but there is no cure for ingrained stupidity.
ISAIAH 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that count darkness as light, and light as darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
