Is the United States becoming a Third World nation? This question has long been on the edge of polite conversation, but former President Trump’s conviction in two New York courts has pushed the query to the forefront. The short answer is that while this slide was once unthinkable, it currently seems “unlikely.” Worse, all the trends point to its increasing likelihood.
What generally defines “Third World” includes pervasive poverty, dilapidated infrastructure, lack of sanitation, inadequate modern healthcare, rampant crime, ineffective education, and violent political instability often reflecting ethnic rivalries, not democratic elections. Law reflects the whim of the powerful; not following written precepts. Third world governments also have a penchant for crushing national debt and wild spending. Invariably, a very rich minority governs masses living in squalor.
What separates First World nations like the U.S. from Third World nations like Nigeria is not vast natural resources. Third World Nigeria abounds in natural wealth while First World Japan has little.
The key difference is human capital, a collection of multiple traits, especially brain power and a strong work ethic, and absent these traits, a modern capitalist economy cannot exist. Expats in Third World countries routinely complain “nothing works,” and the corrupt government cannot fix or maintain anything.
Countless outward signs of a typical Third World nation have recently emerged in the United States. Most visible is the physical decline of major cities: filthy streets, unsanitary homeless encampments, open drug dealing and use, unpunished crime, burgeoning slums “off limits” to ordinary people, and a general incivility. Add a growing multi-generational pathologically ridden underclass permanently dependent on government assistance. A Baltimore resident would be shocked by the contrast with his hometown if he visited Helsinki or Athens.
Less visible is the decay of public education manifested in declining test scores, rampant school violence...

Didn’t Robert Bork write a book entitled “slouching towards Gomorrah”?

I’d love to see reasons why we are NOT a turd-world country.
Yes.
Apt list, and accurate (at least when viewed through the red/blue lens, and I’m referencing the orthodox label of ‘red’ for the left)
“It is easier to drag people down to the Third World than build up Third Worlders to the First world.”
When you have a 70 IQ it’s kind of hard to reach for the stars.
Yes & no:
The author fails to cite that the trend is accelerated under democrats - if not its proximate origin - and is little opposed by republicans, while Conservatives hold true to its foundation and now comprise the persecuted opposition to the trend.
American cities have been in relative decline for many decades. Chicago’s population peaked in 1950. A surge in black migrants increased the crime rate, driving white residents out.
That’s not true of American cities, where judges, prosecutors, mayors and police chiefs are often locally elected. When white voters flee creeping increases in the black population of a given city, they are fleeing crime, not a change in pigmentation. They are running towards jurisdictions like Will County, next to Cook (which Chicago is a part of), where they can elect prosecutors and judges who will put carjackers in prison for decades, as opposed to Chicago’s revolving door justice.
But because of home/local rule rather than national governance, American cities aren’t fossilized the way cities in most countries tend to be. As Detroit stagnated, Dearborn grew on its outskirts. As Chicago’s population peaked, then fell by 1/4, neighboring Will County saw its resident count skyrocket.
Will? Plenty of places have achieved that goal in certain neighborhoods. And expanding quickly to the suburbs.
Will the United States Become a Third World Nation?

Rather the question is:
When did the United States Become a Third World Nation?
BECOME???? LOOK AT OUR CITIES!!!! SHITHOLES, ALL OF THEM!!
There is ONE primary thing wrong with the USA. It has too many DEMOCRATS, plain and simple, period full stop.
Exterminate 90% of the Rats and you will no longer have poverty, crime, hunger and strife.
Vaporize the Washington DC inhabitants along with The New York Times, and you will have peace on earth for a thousand years.
Productive people are "punished" with high taxes.
Unproductive people are rewarded with welfare.
It already is.
Yes! What is rewarded, we get more of...ie...homeless, single mothers, poor people (with bad habits), etc...mo money...mo money...mo money
If Russia is a gas station with nukes....
We are a Marxist hell hole collasping from racism, but we have nukes. We are no longer a Christian nation. We are no longer a Nation where everyone is equal. Christians, whites, hetrosexuals are second/third class citizens. Meanwhile the black community, homosexuals and now Hamas have taken over our colleges and institutions.
The only thing that can save America is fundamental change. We need to do two things immediately - shut down the college Marxist propoganda machine, and nuke our own cities.
0bama’s (puppeteers’) plan to fundamentally transform America and level the playing field is coming true right before our eyes.
No. Everything is going to change in 2025.
The only thing left is for the dollar to crash.
But that is being worked on.
Good old “American Stinker”...
As usual, Way out of phase with the real world...
Next question Stinker will pose: “Will the japs bomb Pearl Harbor in December 1941?
