Ukraine Holds Chasiv Yar amid Russia's 'Disastrous' Canal Crossing—Reports

Ukrainian forces held their ground in the strategically important eastern Ukrainian town of Chasiv Yar as Russian troops are reported to have failed an attempt to cross a canal in the area.

The town, which had a pre-war population of more than 12,000, and is dissected by a canal, is located some 7 miles from the war-torn city of Bakhmut which was seized by Russian forces last May. The town in the Donetsk region has been the focus of Moscow's military since March.

What is irritating to me is that I come here for news, all sources. Stuff I cant get on MSM. I generally dont judge the poster. I judge the content. I dont cheer lead for anybody, not marcusmax or mom in boots, or you. There are many here however, yourself included, who jump immediately to shooting the messenger rather than addressing the message. The totalitarian Ukraine government is now preventing Americans with dual citizenship with the Ukraine from leaving the country. This applies to roughly 10000 Americans in the Ukraine at the moment. This is a true sign of desperation for bodies.

There is known to be a strong defensive line parallel to the canal where it crosses north to south through the town. Russian forces are assessed to have advanced around the southern end of the trench line and are already on the other side of the canal at the southern edge of town. No reason they would try an actual frontal assault across the canal.

Doubtful that this report, unofficially from one soldier in a tv interview, means too much. Sounds like they may have engaged a small unit of Russian troops on the eastern side of the canal, inflicted casualties, blown up an armored vehicle. Newsweek must be hungry for some good news from the battlefront to make this sound like a disaster.
