Telegraph Communication Interrupted by a Storm-Important Movements of Gen. Sherman.
[OFFICIAL.]
WAR DEPARTMENT, WASHINGTON, June 3 -- 10 P.M.
To Maj. Gen. Dix:
A dispatch dated yesterday at 7 1/2 P.M., has this evening been received from Gen. SHERMAN. He reports that on Wednesday, June 1, MCPHERSON moved up from Dallas to a point in front of the enemy a New Hope Church. On Thursday, June 2, SCOFIELD and HOOKER, having been shifted to the extreme left, pushed forward toward Marietta. At the same time STONEMAN's and GARRAND's cavalry were sent to Allatoona Pass, which they reached and held possession of. These movements, the dispatch says, have secured the pass, which was considered a formidable one. Movements are reported by the dispatch as in progress which are not proper now for publication.
Nothing has been heard from Gen. GRANT since his dispatch dated at 7 o'clock yesterday morning. Telegraphic communication has been delayed by a violent storm on the Peninsula yesterday evening and last night, and cannot be reestablished before sometime to-morrow. EDWIN M. STANTON,
Secretary of War.
DETAILS OF OPERATIONS.
Special Dispatch to the New-York Times.
HEADQUARTER ARMY OF THE POTOMAC, IN THE FIELD, NEAR HANOVERTON, Tuesday, May 31, 1864.
By one of those odd coincidences of which the history of the Virginia campaigns is so full, Gen. GRANT'S headquarters are this morning at the very point which formed the extreme right wing of the Army of the Potomac in the Peninsular campaign two years ago. HARRIS' shop, near which we now are and four or five miles southeast of Hanover Court-house, was then occupied by the Fourth Regular Cavalry as an outpost, and it was here, just two years ago, that STUART, moving from Hanover Court-house to make his raid around MCCLELLAN's line, struck our right flank.

Grant was on a bender....................
Doubtful. He was OK as long as he had plenty of activity to keep him occupied. After the siege of Petersburg sets in it will be a different story.
