PEORIA, Illinois — House Speaker Mike Johnson intensified his defense of Donald Trump before headlining a party fundraiser in Illinois on Saturday, as even this deep blue state’s Republicans seized on a Manhattan jury’s guilty verdict as a rallying cry for the former president.
“Terrible,” Frank Hernandez, a retiree from Caterpillar, said of the verdict while waiting for Johnson to speak at the dinner. “The prosecutors, the judge, Biden — they were all in cahoots.”

And after an army of online donors poured a staggering $53 million into Trump’s presidential campaign, Johnson said it wasn’t just Trump raising money off the verdict.
House Republicans, too, he said, had a “record fundraising day in the first 24 hours after that verdict,” though he did not provide a figure.
Trump, Johnson said, “is not just our nominee, not just an individual running for president. I think now he’s seen as a symbol, a symbol of one who is willing to fight back against that corruption, the deep state and all the rest.”
The full effect of the verdict on the presidential campaign may not be clear for months. Both parties were scrambling Saturday to gain a better read on the electorate, while pollsters were rushing to conduct fast — and, for that reason and others — likely unreliable polls.

And among the GOP grassroots, the trial — and the verdict — is serving as a call to arms.
“He’s a f------ criminal,” said former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh, who unsuccessfully challenged Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2020. “But he will not pay a price for this. In fact, this one will help him. This verdict is going to completely help him.”

The idiot Dems have made Trump a living martyr.
he’s a rock star now - last night’s reception at UFC was staggering.
So was Jesus, Moses, Frederick Douglas, Harriet Tubman, Spartacus,...
The people who made George Floyd into a hero are surprised that Trump can be a hero.
“House Republicans, too, he said, had a “record fundraising day in the first 24 hours after that verdict,”
Many GOPe House scumbags are getting money from this false conviction, in the meantime they sold the country out and couldn’t garner enough votes to impeach Xiden and perhaps slowdown the oatmeal-brained, dementia-ridden commie. Too late to get primaried out and with more $$$ the next time around.
What a mess.
Make a martyr out of someone and what do you expect?
Martyr?
ComDem’s need to be exterminated.

Dumbass Joe Walsh will forever be butthurt over his self-inflicted stupidity. Did this idiot truly believe we was going to be considered for POTUS over PDJT? He lost his AM560 Chicago radio show because of this.
While Joe was host of the radio show, he had on a frequent caller (Shaun Thompson) who was remarkably well versed in his political discourse and was also very funny. Shaun eventually replaced Joe Walsh when dumbass (walsh) decided he was going to be president and the rest is history. Shaun is still at AM560 and he is funny as heck and is a patriot unlike dumbf*ck Joe Walsh.
Take Politico with a big dose of salt.
They are NOT our friend.
“House Republicans, too, he said, had a ‘record fundraising day in the first 24 hours after that verdict,’ though he did not provide a figure.”
That sucks. The House Republicans are eunuchs and are doing everything possible to thwart PDJT’s re-election.
I just hope his new-found popularity lasts through the election. I’m concerned that too many of these new “followers” will have short memories or lose interest and fall back to vote for the current criminal administration.
As I wrote elsewhere, over the years, The Presidency went from a job where the nation wanted a guy who had ideas and leadership qualities, to sort of like the slot for lead singer in Van Halen.
You can have a killer frontman like David Lee Roth, who excites and tears it up live and propels the band creatively, but who is a trainwreck in terms of everything else.
You can get Sammy Hagar, who is ultra competent but not terribly motivating.
Then there is Gary Cherone, who was a big part of Extreme but lost in VH.
Trump is Diamond Dave. Bidet is Cherone. DeSantis is Sammy. Parenthetically, the American People are Eddie, Michael, and Alex-a monster band that is invariant to the guy in the singer slot.
America isn’t voting for competency anymore. We are voting for the Lead Singer of America.
And Trump will win the Diamond Dave vote, which will be drawn to a guy who is full of fight and will pick up a few more votes since he just lost a case. Those voters see the good and bad when he was in command - a few good policies, SCOTUS picks, peace, but absolutely terrible personnel choices and a lot left on the table - and hope he can return us to the Fair Warning days and Unchained. But mostly, they want him to mean tweet and mock the MSM relentlessly. Ya gotta admit, 2017-2019 was fun.
Bidet will now get the Gary Cherone vote. Zzzzzzzz…
And a bunch of people will not vote and instead will listen to Radiohead.
…Assuming no fraud..
Adversity builds character. And man, do we ever have character to spare.
Not quite a civil war, yet, but the battle lines are being drawn. The other side has been doing a lot of their undercover stuff dispassionately and methodically, but with this recent revelation of just how they are doing it, they have tipped their hand and set the rules of engagement, as to how the playing field has changed.
Lawfare cuts both ways, you know. And the Constitution is there to set forth just what the objectives should be. Learn it, live it, and love it, and carry forth making the other side obey their own rules.
Although I am not a fan of Nelson Mandela, I think that if you tell a Democrat that Trump is now “just like Nelson Mandela” their head will explode.
I’ve never heard of any of those people.
MM must have missed 1980-1995 rock and roll. Not a bad way to look at the political landscape. There will never be another VH1 LP. One of the best ever.
“House Speaker Mike Johnson intensified his defense of Donald Trump before headlining a party fundraiser”
That’s rallying around him?
He’s speaking out? Hauling people before Congress?
No he’s fundraising off of him.
“MM must have missed 1980-1995 rock and roll.”
Yeah. I recall that when I’d turn on the radio during that time, I’d listen for about five seconds, and find another station. I liked Michael Jackson, Billy Joel (I think he was the ‘80s...?), and similar.
My training is Church Music, so I lean to a “kinder and gentler” side when it comes to music.
But I guess I’d understand your post better if I knew who these guys were/are. You probably made some really good points!
