A Kentucky family’s $15,000 Carnival Cruise vacation they had been planning for a year was canceled just two days before the ship was set to sail after they accidentally shared their booking number online in a case of identity theft.
Tiffany Banks was devastated to learn that her trip aboard the Carnival Celebration ship with her husband and their four kids was canceled without her knowledge the day before the family was going to fly to Florida to leave on the boat.
Banks said in a series of TikTok videos that she had no idea their vacation, for which they had already paid in full, was trashed until she got an email about off-ship excursion cancellations and called to investigate.
A Carnival customer service representative told her that she had canceled her $12,000 reservation for the ship’s largest room — the Excel Presidential Suite — through the online system.
The mom and nurse practitioner said she went into “a full-blown panic” and she and her four kids were all in tears.
“We have nearly $15,000 tied up in for this vacation including excursions. The room itself was I think $12,000 or $13,000, and then we’ve got a few grand tied up in excursions, and actually with almost $2,000 for flights,” she said in a May 12 TikTok video.
Banks said she never canceled the trip and wondered if it was a system glitch.
Carnival said the room they had booked was now reserved by another customer and offered the family two interior rooms — the cheapest on the ship — instead, but the mom did not feel it was an adequate replacement.
Carnival also refused to offer a full refund as its cancellation policy states that no money will be returned within 15 days of the cruise date.

That's not the point. Both the merchant and the seller agree to terms in using the credit card to use the credit card company to arbitrate disputes, which credit card companies do do. I have been on both sides. I have disputed fraudulent charges where a service was provided in a city I never visited and the credit card company agreed. I have also had someone try to dispute a charge for a service that they received. I had full documentation of the transaction and the provision of the service and won that one too.
Credit card companies are good at it for the most part beause they see it all every day.
“When is the best time to shop for bargains on cruise ships?”
My suggestion would be to look for an idiot displaying their booking number on Facebook...and steal their trip. Might limit your choice of destinations, but it would be free.
“First,”
You made a general statement which I responded to. You can’t used specifics of this case to make your argument.
“I’m gonna a visit from that pedantic “Regards” guy now.”
Could be worse. You could get a reply from TexasHator
ABSOLUTELY! When In take close-up photos of one of our cats and blow up the picture, I can clearly see myself taking the picture, and details in the room behind me, all reflected back from the surface of her eye.
“Carnival? They should consider themselves lucky”
Agree. Ghettocruising.
Exactly. Well worth the money.
Lol…we were the opposite. We enjoyed our shore excursions in Juneau (18 man canoe to a glacier), Skagway (White Pass railroad), and Victoria the best.
“Something is wrong right there.”
Maybe the company who handles reservations was doing a favor for a friend who wanted that suite.
Or maybe she called in, asked a question, or made a statement, and the rep didn’t understand.
Carnival and Princess are in the same family, and I know the people who they’ve contracted with are ESL — Philippines, I’ve heard. We cruise Princess. I’ve requested things, and reps have heard/done the exact opposite of what I said. Just picked out a few pertinent words and acted on them.
I suppose all of that is moot if it is a fact that the deed was done solely because of a stupid FB posting.
On Freevee, there’s a true crime series, “Cruise Ship Murders”. (It’s always the husband.)

And I think he’s on his monthly “cycle” this week. 😂
:The good cabins are gone as much as six months out.”
Try two years out. Looking at 2026 sailings, and good cabins are hard to get in some cases.
“I know people that keep a bag packed and try to do what you said, but not 2-3 weeks prior, more like 2-3 days prior. “
When we lived an hour north of San Pedro, we were on a list to get those last-minute offers. Same thing ... had bags packed under the bed, and all ready to go.
“Rebook if price comes down.”
The price of our December cruise has dropped about $600 over the last few months. Expect it will drop even more as weeks pass.
We’re you ever able to capitalize on that?
Yup- the youtube videos of fights on their boats is classic....
Don’t forget- about 15 years ago a Carnival ship ran out of gas in the Gulf and people had to use plastic bags to go to the bathroom.
“This lady might get resolution but it’s not gonna be as easy as dealing with a company right here in the US.”

“Carnival ship ran out of gas “
They don’t run on gas.
“A Carnival customer service representative told her that she had canceled her $12,000 reservation for the ship’s largest room — the Excel Presidential Suite — through the online system.”
According to the article the cruise was cancelled on line a few days before the cruise. That seems bizarre unless your first thesis is correct.
BTW- $12K for the largest room on the ship?? Unless this was a 4 days cruise, that’s a bargain.
LOL- its Carnival....whatever it was the ship wandered aimlessly in the Gulf and people were told to crap in plastic bags because the toilets were backing up
