I understand that the Drudge page has gone off the deep end at times but its all out effort to paint Trump is so ridiculous. Current page says "Evidence Overwhelming" yet has not posted one single thing enumerating what he is actually charged with.
Its become quite a leftist shrieking page if ever.
Stopped going there years ago.
It was reported that the Otto family, which were some people who were early Google employees and made $ from stock options, bought into the website. Not sure if that is true but that’s what comes up on search.
It was reported that Matt made so much cash from the site - low overhead and huge ad revenues - one wonders why he would sell it at all. Maybe an offer he couldn’t refuse. Maybe he just got tired of it. He tried talk radio but that didn’t work out. He missed the podcast / vlogging boom entirely. I guess he either decided to retire or maybe just gave up editorial control and still helps it run in some sort of emeritus capacity. Maybe he was never that serious an out it and it was just a gag that far exceeded his expectations.
I've heard various reasons, from Matt Drudge having sold it to Google and not even having any direct involvement anymore. To Drudge blaming Trump and the right for outing him as gay back around 2018 and turning The Drudge Report into a far-left propaganda site in revenge.
Who knows what the truth it...
I suspect that soros bought it.
the only thing I found was a rumored sale to Margaret Otto in 2018 ... an early google employee and very far left. Part of the deal was to keep it secret. Cannot confirm ...
Switched to Rantingly years ago. F Matt Drudge and the hat he rode in on.
Yeah, that is pretty much what I found. Thanks for looking also. 🙂👍
wasnt that a news site back in the 90’s?
I remember the drudge report.
Drudge is like Huffington Post. They keep liberals in their fantasy world.
His links often aren’t the real link anyway, you click on it and it is MSN or the other intermediary with a long teaser, and then click again to read the part of the article that fits the headline and of course without all the fullness that is in the original source.
It’s a quote from the prosecutor during the closing statement.
But the beauty of it is that it keeps raking in money, only now from the liberal side of the spectrum, unless he sold it for big money, ad wanted the money in a lumpsum.
Perhaps. It’s a lot of guesswork unless they make a deal public information. Yes I suppose it still makes a lot of cash flow but it was off some 40% from its peak last I checked a couple of years ago. So they took a hit. Maybe someone wanted the chess piece off the board, if you catch my drift. Drudge is now replaced with large institutional players. There is no real “underground news site” that aggregates unflattering information about the left with siren headlines.
Still makes me wonder since Matt Drudge could have had an app, could have had millions of followers on social media, could have had a podcast or Youtube blog, etc. He sold - if he sold - well before he could build an empire. Today you have a lot of guys who are more ambitious e.g. PBD, Tucker, Rogan and others.
I have no knowledge how that might exist, but somewhat akin to a dark Web, but operating on the regular internet.
Basically I'm trying to make the case of why it should be public knowledge even if my attempt to do so comes off as lame. 🤣
I haven’t even thought about Drudge for years. Surprised it’s still functioning.
I used to check it everyday. Now I check it occasionally. It's obvious that a Leftist bought the site.
Too much work. He just wanted to make a living.
He made a good living from what I can tell. Despite his hat and publicity photos he was not much of a journalist. Maybe he posted a handful of “scoops” published in his name. Otherwise it was just sensationalist headlines linking to 3rd party websites. Clever enough. Inspired a bit. But not really journalism. He tapped into a market segment of news consumers and that worked very well for him for many years.. He may not have even really been particularly partisan but more just an opportunist. He saw a market segment and went for it? So yeah, he made a living. A seemingly good one. Then after a couple of decades decided it was better to cash out a chunk or all of it. Maybe he still gets a piece of the action or some royalty for use of his name. He’s dropped off the radar as far as I know. Living La vida loca perhaps? He earned that right I suppose.
