Alina Habba says Trump’s hush-money jury should have been sequestered over holiday weekend
The Hill ^ | 5/26/24 | Miranda Nazzaro

Alina Habba, an attorney for former President Trump, suggested the jury in the hush-money trial should have been sequestered over Memorial Day weekend to prevent outside influence ahead of this week’s closing arguments.

“They should have been sequestered, because, in my opinion, these jurors are handling something that is completely unprecedented and unwarranted in America,” Habba said Sunday on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“And for them to be able to be out and about on a holiday weekend with friends and families who have opinions, who are watching the news, TVs in the background at the pool party, I have serious concerns. If they’re left-wing and they’re watching MSDNC, as my client calls it, [MSNBC] or CNN, they’re not going to get fair news.”

The 12 New York jurors will be tasked this week with weighing whether to convict Trump on 34 criminal counts, all of which need to have the same decision or else the case ends in a mistrial.

Trump’s defense last Tuesday rested their case without calling the former president to the stand, and the jurors were dismissed until this coming Tuesday, when closing statements are slated to begin. Jury deliberations will follow shortly afterward.

Judge Juan Merchan said closing arguments will not be held until this coming Tuesday as a result of some “issues,” though he did not explain what those might be.

Habba argued the holiday weekend will allow jurors to speak with their friends who might have “Trump derangement syndrome,” an informal term used by Trump allies to refer to criticism of the former president.

Tuesday should be entertaining as hell. This statement, “Judge Juan Merchan said closing arguments will not be held until this coming Tuesday as a result of some “issues,” though he did not explain what those might be.” Sounds like the judge needed more time to FABRICATE the jury instructions.

ISSUES?? What, the BIG check to his Cupid Stunt daughter won’t clear until Tuesday?

True but they were already hearing that and maybe-just maybe they might hear someone like Alan Dershowitz who says this is one of hte most unfair trials he has ever seen in 60 years

Their guilty verdict for Trump was assured on day 1. Trump is being railroaded.

Events in Nazi history are closer than they appear.

Agree absolutely. They never should have permitted this gap.

Now remember, the judge can still step in...and render a verdict. (I think)

I think most everyone in the country has figured out that this is a Stalinist show trial and Trump is innocent of a non existent crime.

It’s get Trump and the peer pressure to convict the guy is going to be off the charts

There never should have been a trial.

That’s what I also read somewhere where the judge can render his verdict and not go to jurors.

Another thing I don’t understand, there are multiple counts , do the jurors have to find trump guilty on all for hang on all not to go to jail. I don’t understand this part

I’m sure that at least some of the jurors have more than likely been communicating with friends and relatives throughout the trial. This is N.Y., and most of them are democrats. They won’t all be silent and keep to themselves. Even if they were conservative, the pressure to communicate and dialog would make it difficult to stay out of any conversation.

I don’t understand the whole damned thing except that they hate Trump and don’t want him to win in Nov. That’s the only thing that’s clear to me.

It's really one charge that they made into 34...and yes they have to clear him on all 34.

But I'm not quite certain how the charges are written up...but it's "somewhere".

It's a roll of the dice for acquittal or hung...

I'm guessing the Judge will do as told....so who knows. "Nice Sheep"

On the other hand, I suspect more than one watched and discussed Trump’s most awesome Bronx appearance and realized he’s not the ogre he’s made out to be.

Yep. Recall that a NYC jury found Trump guilty in the more ridiculous E Jean Carrol fake rape trial. A black man accused of raping a white girl in 1900 Georgia had a better chance at getting a fair trial than Trump does in NYC.

The jurors need to be accessible so that the final negotiations for their payouts may proceed.

A lie detector test for all jurors would probably be a good idea.
