Joel Bueno shed tears of joy as his four-legged guests entered the intensive care unit where he had been admitted due to a blood clot. Bueno, 34, said being showered with affection by therapy dogs Vida and Lu reminded him of his own dog back home.
"It's great to have someone that loves you more than anything else in the world," he told Reuters with a broad smile. "They give everything for you, no matter how you are with them."
The visit was part of a trial launched by the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona and the Affinity Foundation, which specialises in pet therapy, to improve the emotional well-being of patients in intensive care units (ICU).

Just what a hospital ICU needs. A bunch of filthy animals with their hair, feces, urine, barking. Sanitation? Hygiene?
It’s bad enough dog owners have ruined dining, travel, shopping. I was in a luxury shopping mall last week and some creep brought their dog, it lifted its leg and urinated all over a jewelry kiosk. Of course the owner pretended not to notice, no apology, nothing, just kept walking lab-di-dah as if nothing had happened.
Sure I want this in my hospital when I’m trying to recover from a life threatening illness in the ICU. Insanity.
Bfl
I doubt that visits by therapy dogs are mandatory for people who hate dogs.
Then go to the OR and greet everyone in the total joint room.
Sounds like a plan.
After all, it's your FEELINGs that matter.
This is what happens when you let administrative positions increase by 1000 percent and let MBAs and liberals run medicine.
Interesting. That’s exactly how I see many people that I don’t want to get within a few feet of.
But the dogs! They are EXACTLY what I’d want if I was sick and worried and in desperate need of love and comfort. BRILLIANT idea in the hospital. I’ll bet they were scrubbed within an inch of their wonderful lives before they were brought in.
So you take an extreme hypothetical argument and argue it as a norm. Rational. Quite impressed with your logic.
This is in Barcelona, Spain! 🤦♀️
That's called reductio ad absurdum (reduction to absurdity) in debating and in courtrooms. It's a logical fallacy used by poor debaters, shifty lawyers, and cheats.
Interesting remarks from you file of sick people.
I am 84, almost 85, and I have had a number of marvelous dogs, gigantic to teeny. Sometimes I have only one for a long period of time and other times I have up to 3. Never had 4 I have to admit.
Using all the information about how to treat dogs starting with very young dogs I have had some very interesting and loving experiences. The advice I have taken is excellent and better than what I had imagined.
I do love my dogs, plural or singular. Getting older I found rather long ago I needed a pooch I could actually physically handle was best. So the last 30 years of dog handling has been with 10 or less pounders.
I also looked at and watched the “parent” dog as she was raising her puppies to 6 weeks. Lack of aggression and capacity to enjoy and take pleasure in a relationship was imperative. No, absolutely, no aggression after the first attempt was acceptable.
I wish you the best and the “funnest’ moments of your life.
My little ones were very important to me as I got older and most regretfully they each lived only 13 years. But it was 39 happy dog years!
Hope you find a good dog to bring you happiness.
;-)
Yeps. Animals are very healing. And because they are naturally hilarious, they brighten everyone’s day (except for those psychopaths who hate animals).
What is really going on in your brain? People actually can figure out even by themselves (at one point or another) the best time for a “clean” dog visit. It is after a dog has had a bath or whatever is necessary for a “clean” visit ...filled with love and affection.
Gads.
Exactly!!! 👍
I once rescued a litter of small, pink kittens. Turned out that it was blood on white kittens from fleas. A fascinating experience getting those tiny hell raisers clean.
Whatever you say, guys.
