LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested by Louisville Metro Police on Friday morning after trying to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the site of this week's PGA Championship.
Traffic outside the golf course had been stopped after a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. ET.
Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. Scheffler was released at 8:40 a.m. ET and headed to Valhalla. The assault charge is a felony; the others are misdemeanors.
Scheffler's attorney said it would be up to Scheffler whether he plays today in the second round.
According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median. A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.
At one point, an officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler's car. Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club.
After about 20 to 30 seconds, Scheffler rolled down his window to talk to the officer. The officer grabbed Scheffler's arm to pull him out of the vehicle, according to Darlington. The officer reached inside the vehicle to open the door, and once Scheffler was pulled out, he was pushed against the car and placed in handcuffs.
Darlington was standing at the entrance when Scheffler was detained. Darlington said Scheffler turned to him and asked, "Can you help?"
According to Darlington, an officer instructed him to back away.
Scottie: next time ID yourself as ANTIFA on way to demonstrate. Looks like a CF to me. Did the coppers arrest the driver who killed the ped?
I've also been involved in a couple of somewhat chaotic traffic situations where two different police officers directed two different flows of traffic into each other's path.
Even if Scheffler was the biggest A-hole in the world, I'd go out of my way to assume that he did nothing wrong here.
And yes ... I think people who fly those silly "Back the Blue" flags in front of their homes are delusional fools.
Cops need to STOP doing this. Many are killed or injured every year because of this stupid action. A traffic issue is NOT the time to jump on the car that is moving.
“Scheffler doesn’t have to have a clue.
You do what you’re told, make polite inquiries if you’d like to do something else.
You do NOT drive over a median.
The cop would have no way to know what the heck your intentions are.”
Ya
Actually no. Under these same circumstances, he wouldn’t.
He should announce his prize money is going towards a lawsuit against the police and the city.
Good cops are very few and far between.
Well like I said, I doubt jumping on a car is standard police training anywhere.
One thing I'll say seeing the video is, if there was a national leftist civilian security force "just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded as the military" this is probably how they'd react, and for the reasons you'd expect.
Scheffler birdies the first hole. It's gonna work out fine.
If Scheffler had been black, that cop would have been in big, big trouble.
When you look at all these police incidents that result in race riots and widespread destruction by BLM, Antifa, etc., what's really at work here is bad cops, not racist ones. You just never hear about the ones involving white victims ... unless the victim happens to be a top PGA player.
More than likely....things being what they are I’m sure it’ll just be considered a misunderstanding and swept under the rug......especially if the cop is a minority.
DEI hire.

LOL
cop was more jacked up than Biden at the SOTU.
You do. But probably not if you live more than 100 miles away. White people don’t bring the outrage. Which is probably a problem. Lets face it, middle class and above white people are still the demographic politicians care the most about. If WE started making a stink about cops killing unarmed people, especially if we started taking money out of the economy, the politicians might actually try to fix it.
In my experience, good manners go a long way.
One of the biggest selling points when I relocated my home and business to another state (driven mainly by the COVID fiasco) was that the town where I now live has no police department.
Scottie made his second round tee time...
