LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was detained by Louisville Metro Police on Friday morning while trying to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the site of this week's PGA Championship.
Traffic outside the golf course had been stopped after a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. ET.
According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median. A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.
At one point, an officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler's car. Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club.
After about 20 to 30 seconds, Scheffler rolled down his window to talk to the officer. The officer grabbed Scheffler's arm to pull him out of the vehicle, according to Darlington. The officer reached inside the vehicle to open the door, and once Scheffler was pulled out, he was pushed against the car and placed in handcuffs.
Darlington was standing at the entrance when Scheffler was detained. Darlington said Scheffler turned to him and asked, "Can you help?"
According to Darlington, an officer instructed him to back away.
"You need to get out of the way," the officer told Darlington. "Right now, he's going to jail, and there's nothing you can do about it."

Triggered cop overreaction. There’s no indication that Scheffler was being uncooperative.
Cuffed and stuffed! Tee time 10:08am will he make it in time ?
Tip: don’t drive around a traffic stop 🛑
No???

you think after this he’ll shoot lower than 10 over par??
Can he get a Mulligan?...................
We treat illegals crossing the border better than the number 1 golfer in the world who the cop failed to see the placard on his car and wave him thru.
Not that we will ever hear it, but probably an illegal worker or other out-on-bail person involved in the accident.
100%. If he grabbed someone crossing the border that aggressively he would be fired.
I see a lawsuit, millions upon millions because he got his arm “injured”. Hope he sues, sounds like he was being cooperative after his stupid actions.
Other than refusing to stop with a cop hanging on his car for about 20 yards, taking his sweet time rolling down the window and asking a guy there to help him. Other than that no.
Nothing to do with a placard. There was a fatal accident investigation going on. Entitled guy decided a placard meant he could drive through the scene. He too important to drop a window and ask the cop out in the rain how he’s going to get in without driving through the scene.
No Birdie for YOU, Dumb@ss. ;)
He needs a new driver.
Cops on traffic duty feel like they are gods.
How many drug arrests has officer deputy dawg had this past month?
Having been arrested and jailed {always my fault} I know that old fat cops and young weight lifters, are the worst when they have a white collar perp.
Every beating I took, I deserved, but the holier than thou cops all covered for each other, punching out a perp.
That cop that arrested Scheffler is showing how big his ----- is and has stepped on it using steel spikes.
Guess not just black people need to watch that Chris Rock video.
Looks like a terrorist.
