An honorable mention to the Go-Go's, they played their own instruments.
Mods pull if too controversial.
Only the lonely can play.
We didn’t know how good we had it in the ‘80s...
Girlschool is still around. Denise was a good friend of Lemmy. I’m a good friend of her brother. They are all friends together with Venom and have played together.
L7
There are 31?
They also wrote their own songs. They remain the only all-female band with a Billboard #1 album where they played all their instruments and wrote all the music.
No other all-female band has ever done this.
I was dismissive of the Go Go's as a teen in the 80s but I recently revisited their first three albums and found them to be excellent.
Interesting list, but over half of those bands I have never heard of. There is probably a reason for that too.
The Carpenters were not a girl band. they were a brother & sister duo.
Not strictly all girl, but Heart was pretty good.
Disagree with Heart being a girl band.....Although they were the “heart” of the band (no pun intended) they were but 2 females IN the band.
Talent wise, more than likely head and shoulders above the rest.
Is a brother & sister duo considered a girl group?
Well, maybe with that haircut.
14. Divinyls
I was just thinking about them...
The Bangles
New York Dolls - oh, wait, sorry; I guess I’m using 2020’s criteria for “gender”.
“There are 31?“
Weird, right?
Head and shoulders above? Heart featured members like Mark Andes (Spirit, Firefall) and Denny Carmassi (Montrose, Sammy Hagar, Whitesnake)...
I liked Bananarama. There, I said it, and I’m not ashamed....
Based on them including artist that were fronted by girls they left off a huge talent... Sade
