Floating up the Bay from Redwood City to San Rafael is “out to sea”?
Well, what if they get cut off, and take the wrong offramp. Next thing you know, you’re in the Farallons.
It is if you're a journalist.
A good sized typhoon would upend that houseboat.
I have to say that is pretty cool.
Indeed. So would a tsunami. But since both venues are on the inside of the bay and typhoons are unknown in the frigid waters off Northern California, I think the boat is ok
When I read “houseboat” I wasn’t thinking about something like that.
That looks like a house that floats, not a houseboat.
Yeah, that has to be the largest house boat I even seen. Four stories counting the open-aired lowest level.
Now if they will determine that tents, RVs and vehicles that people live in are not allowed to block access to homes, businesses and sidewalks.
After graduating from college about 40 years ago, I took a job on Long Island in New York. I was perusing the house advt and saw houseboats for sale. I thought that would be cool to have a “house” I could take out on the bay for a ride from time to time. I when down to the marina where they were situated to learn that A: they had no engines, B: they were just rooms on barges and C: several of the boats I saw appeared to be listing and about ready to capsized at their docks. I quickly figured out why these homes were so cheap.
My dream of a quaint home on the water were quickly dashed.
I was in San Rafael earlier this year. There are several of these types of houses tied up to piers. My guess is that the owner doesn’t have to pay property taxes on land.
That pales in comparison to the houseboat in the video. It also doesn’t look like a house boat. That looks more like a typical lower end yacht, even though it appears to be on a flat-bottomed barge like base. Did you look at the yacht in the video? It looked like it a Victorian styled house that could have been ripped off of a foundation and put on a flat-bottomed barge like base. 🙂👍
Areas of Seattle have some amazing houses built on barges. They have no self propulsion so they really arent houseboats per se.
That’s not the image that came to mind when I saw the word “houseboat.”
Howl’s Moving Castle
Is it bring towed? Or moving under its own power?!?
