The Oscars now require that a film include (behind or in front of the camera) a quota of nonwhites for the film to be eligible for an Academy Award. But nonwhite can include Middle Eastern, so Israeli Jews (e.g., Natalie Portman, Gal Gadot) can check the nonwhite box.

Reading that form, it seem that if your heritage is English, German, Italian, or whatever, you can check that box even if you weren't born in those countries.

Since Jews claim to originate from ancient Israel, I wonder if any Jew -- even converts? -- can check Israeli.

Thru my wife’s history and daughter’s lineage tracking we found out that my grandmother was descendant to an Ashkenazi jew and that through her maternal lineage my wife and daughters and three grand daughters are now jews.

My maternal grandmother was an Ashkenazi Jew from Northern Europe. Her family immigrated here when she was two. According to the Jewish law of matrilineal descent, that means that my mother was Jewish and so were my siblings and I.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that being Jewish is currently the “correct” kind of racial minority, at least as far as democrats are concerned.
