March 26 (UPI) -- An alligator found living behind a former Coca-Cola plant in Florida has been put on a diet to lose some of its over 400 pounds.
The 9-foot gator was relocated from the grounds of the former Coca-Cola plant in Temple Terrace after neighbors raised concerns about a damaged fence around the retention pond.
The alligator was taken to Croc Encounters, where veterinarians decided to put the over-400-pound reptile on a weight loss diet.
"That's a little heavy for that animal," Croc Encounters Director John Panner told WFLA-TV.
Neighbors living near the plant said some locals had been feeding the gator, which they nicknamed Coca-Cola. The goliath gator was reported served lunch meat and hams by nearby residents.
Panner said the alligator's new diet will be more well-suited to his species.
"All of our alligators get a mix of pellet diet," he said. "We'll also feed fish, we also feed chicken, we'll do that on a regular basis, and hopefully he'll slim down a bit."
Give it Bud Lite
It’s not a GAYtor................
A better idea would be to relocate them to the Rio Grande. The gators would take care of border security, and get an occasional wetback for dinner.
I’m all for that. Waiting for Texas and Florida governors to start implementing this.
LOL.
We are allowed to shoot coyotes on our own property without a license here. Common sense should rule these situations.
Those three months they housed him in the kiddie pool really bloated him up.
I can smell the diabetes…
So, he’s grossly obese, living next to a soda plant, and living off of a junk food diet... Coca Cola should just hire him as a security guard, and get it over with. :P
Must be a Freshman........................from Raines...........
They might not want to be run over. Years ago one of my aunts lived around Naples, Florida. While out driving one night there happened to be a gator on the road in front of them, and it reared up to greet them as the vehicle approached. Not sure how the gator did, but I understand it inflicted some damage to the car.
CHOOT CHOOT
Wait ‘till he’s not playing football anymore 😏
He’s from Tampa actually......looks like he ATE Tampa
The Andrew’s sisters were big on Rum and Coca Cola.
Catchy song.
I (and a deceased friend) were named “Gator Nappers” by a large city US newspaper in 1965, and I am the only living so-named “Gator Napper” on the planet.
Alberta was missing a leg, weighed 200 lbs. and was over 6’ long - NOT in the south, but in northern Indiana. We only borrowed her for a few hours, carried her in capacious trunk of my ‘51 Ford Crestliner.
We let her go in a pond in the woods not knowing a creek went from the pond to the largest lake in Indiana - Wawasee - and Alberta made her way into the lake. Lake residents wanted us caught and put away for life. We faced $6k fines and 6 years in jail.
“Gatornapper” is on the license plate of 1 car, 1 truck, & 1 motorcycle.
Born in Miami Beach in WWII - lived all over Florida, did grad work at UofMiami. Dad was a Gator. I too should be pinged on all Gator items......
Your Gator heritage is pretty darn great! That’s quite a story!
