preparing for the end of the world.

That is preposterous. There is no way to prepare for the end of the world. I would go out on a limb to say that most preppers have lost confidence in the institutions that support the way of life we enjoy today. They see way government orchestrates crisis after crisis. They see the war on farmers and they know who the ultimate target is.

there is no “surviving” a nuclear holocaust. I thought this was settled 40 years ago.

I have been ready for that for the last 54 years after my discharge from the military. Paying attention to the world situation and having extra stocks on hand just in case.

When the Vietnam war ended someone wondered whom our next war would be with. I thought then said.....Islam. I was correct. I was not the only one who thought it.

The best prep is, first, having kids and raising them well. And, second, get involved in saving America rather than being a couch potato. (A few guns might also come in handy.)

No one is going to make it unless they make a huge lifestyle change now. One has to learn and practice how to live completely without electricity long term first thing. Basically return to the lifestyle during the 1800s before electricity so that when it comes you don’t notice much and the impact will be minimal. Only about 5% of this country is ready and prepared to do this, the rest are history in a few short months.

A lot of “Prepping” is just learning and applying the lessons learned by watching how depression era grandparents live. They probably would have appreciated being able to have generators and long storage food available.

Might also want to network with half a dozen other families to support each other. Learn to communicate without electronics like the Pilgrims.

Here is a Link to the March Free Republic Gardening thread. While not a prepper thread, but it does have information preppers might find useful.

One of the best and most effective preps is to eliminate consumer debt. Then pay off your home. Traditionally, preppers store food and supplies. Not having some (shelf stable) food and basic survival supplies is a more modern lifestyle thing. Everyone my age remembers having some what would be considered “survival” food items as a regular practice back in the day but this has gone out of style. I’m all for having some long terms storage of food, emergency lighting, a second heat source, some kind of plan to protect in case of lawlessness and some communication device, tools and maybe barter items. But acquire this stuff after you get your debt (if you have some) under control.

The idea of “prepping” first entered American culture during the Cold War with the looming specter of nuclear holocaust.

No.

It entered human culture the first time we moved into an area where it was not continually summer.

Prepping always been about learning to survive a downgraded life where the amenities and constants of modern life are no longer there. Normally that would mean a weather event, natural disaster, unseen economic crash and yes, nuclear war.

Now it means being downgraded by a combination of BIG business and our own nation’s government. They both love the China model now. We have Fascism trying to convert things to Communism of the China variety.

Along with that, the wealthy people think that earth’s resources are finite and want to make sure they and theirs that follow, get them. They think there’s too many little useless people using those resources that their descendants should have.

Then we have the humanists that think humans and tech can be melded together to make super humans. I’m sure they’ll find someone to test it on before they do it to themselves.

All of the above agree on one thing. The little people must be pushed downward, possibly into the ground.

A Symptom Of Societal Decay?

A symptom of 4 years of a fake president trying to destroy this nation.
