The term "token conservative" describes the lip service paid by the mainstream, liberal media to so-called fairness. The typical offering from the mainstream media is a single moderate, so-called "conservative" speaker, reporter, columnist among hundreds of fellow liberal employees. This person's view is almost exclusively "New World" moderate-to-liberal and they usually find more in common with their liberal counterparts than with real American conservatives. On occasion, a single true conservative such as Jeffrey Lord finds employment with the mainstream media, but it never lasts because of their commitment to real conservative viewpoints. The liberal media demands that they hire their brand of "conservative" – one that will attack real conservatives. In some cases, token "conservatives" have voiced opinions even more left-wing than those of commentators who admit being on the Left.

Mods pull if too controversial.
Isn’t it a CINO - Conservative In Name Only
Well, yes but the liberal media always holds them up as conservatives. Akin to them calling Black conservatives, token Republicans, as they always label them. 🙂
CINO is more accurate than RINO. The Republican Party has long had wishy-washy members/candidates/office holders. A lot of those may have been pretty solid on the economic issues but they often had liberal social agenda views. (Some were probably closet Dims who knew a Dim couldn’t be elected in their district and so they ran as Republicans.)
Others didn’t even care about the growth of the federal behemoth. These were the “centrists,” cross-the-aisle types. We can all name a bunch of them. They are not conservatives, broadly speaking. Their goal is not to make the government smaller and foster more freedom. It’s to be reelected and go along to get along. To the extent they claim to be conservatives, they are Conservatives In Name Only.
David “Pant Crease” Brooks comes to mind.
I call them “house conservatives”—very obedient to their leftist masters.
Not too contriversial.
Nope.
Yes, it is.
“Token Conservatives” AKA “House Conservative”
