A man was shot in the head at a Brooklyn subway station on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Police said the shooting took place at around 4:50 p.m. at the A/C Hoyt–Schermerhorn Streets station — which houses the NYPD’s 30th transit precinct.
A person of interest was taken into custody, the NYPD said, adding a gun was recovered at the scene.
The victim was brought to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical condition, cops said.
A subway car at the station was “covered with blood and ballistics” when police arrived, a source said.
It wasn’t immediately clear what sparked the violence, which came just over a week after Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she was sending hundreds of National Guard and state police troops into the subways to help with bag checks as a way to curb transit crime.
No guardsmen were at the Brooklyn station when the rush-hour shooting broke out.
Terrified straphangers ducked for cover on the packed train car in the moments after the shooting, according to video from ABC journalist Jordan Philippe, who was on the subway when gunfire erupted.

The shooter was a “32-year-old man” and the victim was a “36-year-old man.” That’s all the reporter could come up with and he was in the freaking subway car! The story was poorly written and made it seem like the gunman just decided to shoot someone in the head for no reason. The actual facts are just the opposite but you have to read the entire article to figure out who’s who. SMDH.

Hochul disarmed them anyhow. Even if there, they don’t want to be arrested if they intervened. It’s all for show.

Ever see the video. ? Everyone of those 100s of NG are standing together, lined up with rifles against their chest at 1 station. 2 or 3 are looking into old ladies shopping bags. They check your lunch bag but not the 40 pound nap sack on your back. Why aren’t they fanned out all over the system ?
Bring back Curtis Sliwa…..he kept crime down with a couple dozen unarmed volunteers…..

In one video I saw one soldier playing with his cell phone, while another one was chatting with a civilian. They aren't being paid to do that. Observation is their prime job. You can't do that when you are distracted.
Don't they have cameras on those subway trains?
Guess the next step is to do full body searches. How would you like that job?

The Coulter Rule is in effect. They haven't announced anything about the shooter because it wasn't a white male.
Apparently there's video of one non-white male instigating a fight with another non-white male in the subway car prior to the shooting.

After seeing more video, I might not have been initially correct.
It appears the black man with the gun was initially stabbed by what looks to be a Latino man. After being stabbed, the black guy pulls out his own gun, is disarmed by the Latino man, who then shoots him.

Funny you should ask that. I spent 25 years in uniform in all-male NY State's prison system. I retired 20 years ago. I'm a female, and there were plenty of times I had to frisk male convicts, but didn't participate in strip searches of them. But as a Sergeant, I had to supervise the officer's conducting strip frisks on convicts when they were admitted to the box. One of my favorite events as an officer was when I had to frisk a muslim convict. The rule was that a male officer would do the search on a muslim convict if one was in the area, otherwise a female could perform the frisk. Oh how they whined when there wasn't a male officer around.
