Man Arrested for Arson at Santa Cruz Church

Santa Cruz police said they arrested a man wanted for allegedly starting a fire near a cross on the grounds of a Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz on Friday night.

On Monday, members of the Santa Cruz Police Department Homeless Response Team noticed that the man pictured on surveillance leaving the area after the fire started was a familiar face. He was identified as Don Marc Allen Louis, 42, from a prior enforcement encounter.

On Tuesday, Louis was spotted near the train tracks near Coral Street and he was arrested. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail for arson.

The motive for the fire remains under investigation, per police.
