Zanzibar, Tanzania — Eight children and an adult died after eating sea turtle meat on Pemba Island in the Zanzibar archipelago, while 78 other people were hospitalized, authorities said Saturday. Sea turtle meat is considered a delicacy by Zanzibar's people even though it periodically results in deaths from chelonitoxism, a type of food poisoning.

The adult who died late Friday was the mother of one of the children who succumbed earlier, said the Mkoani District medical officer, Dr. Haji Bakari. He said the turtle meat was consumed Tuesday.

I use to try Vt C pills but they were to big to swallow.
Maybe I could cut them into. I drink orange/mango juice instead. Get some C. anyway, I hope.

South Louisiana in Larose in the 60s.

At JCs, Mr. JC put on the occasional Turtle Supper and Crab Boil. JCs was a local bar and occasional supper event in South Louisiana. It was all locals and very civilized though it looked like a run down bar, it was not. JCs was a local area where people just got together and had a beer or not and just talked. Our local priest Father Fauci also attended. Father Fauci’s money was no good at the bar. He could not buy a beer as his parishioners would buy it with instance.

I miss those days of innocence.

Emergen-C 1000mg Vitamin C Powder...available at the drug store

I’ve found the individual packets of this powder mixed into a glass of water to be a pleasant way to get extra C.

Definitely NOT!
Alligators are pretty good!
Rattlesnakes are OK, kind of rubbery.
There are even hunting seasons for turtles in some states.
Cobras, pythons, salt water alligators, ...
People basically eat lots of snakes and lizards, but just some people.
Anyway reptiles are mostly exceptional, specialty foods, I do not thing anybody eats them as a staple food.

Nash’s Restaurant in Broussard, Louisiana uses to have a fantastic turtle soup, if you can imagine something between a seafood gumbo with and almost chili texture. That was one of my “go to” restaurants when I lived in the area.

There used to be a restaurant called the Oyster House in Islamorada that served fried turtle steak. I loved it.

...even though it periodically results in deaths

Many times this starts with the phrase "hold my beer and watch this".

Its basically a small donut with no hole, just a dish pinched into the middle. Normally rolled in powdered sugar and then the dish is piled high with vanilla whipped cream. There is a chocolate version that occasionally appears that no one actually eats, its mostly there to let you know that you are at a fancy eatin establishment.

We also eat, alligators, crocodiles, snakes of various species, and lizards like iguanas. Protein is protein. I like sea turtles no need to eat them they live for over 100 years and hurt no one. Snapping turtles are d1cks they make great turtle soup. Commanders Palace in the Big Easy has the best version of it anywhere at any price.
