More editing would really take it over the top. For example, I think the sentence in Chap 2 .. "Jason was a larger man than Mark, classically handsome, and with a fit body." is a great opportunity to elaborate further on Jason's body type and build a stronger image in the reader's mind.
In the last book I authored (I've only authored two) one thing I found helpful was to have multiple editing passes, with each pass looking for one specific issue. For example, in my case, I had a tendency to misuse "its" vs "it's", so I had one editing pass for each chapter which was dedicated to making that single correction. I ended up having nine editing passes for each chapter, but they went quickly.
For my own writing project I'm editing using the "markdown" syntax, so that it allows me to focus more on content than form. But, I'm a "Unix nerd", so there's that. (And, yes, I'm using LaTeX and generating my final products in PDF format).

My postings are often too verbose for many people on this forum, and I get that completely...:)
I just enjoy writing about things-I have heard that to write in a way that can engage someone else, you should write about things you know of.
In my case, I have had a wonderful life. Just great. So I enjoy writing about the things I have seen and done, and FR, with its tolerant community (Yes...I DID say “Free Republic” and “Tolerant Community” in the same sentence!) is happy to let me post for anyone who has the time and/or inclination to read what I put out there.
It is why I come back, year after year.
Whenever we meet, this short story will describe the event. lolol. Kudos to you, Laz.

I think this is a good start. One of my weaknesses is the love of all things science fiction! When do we get to see the next four chapters?
While I have been devouring classical science fiction since I was about seven years old, (almost seventy years ago now), I never did dabble in the writing of it. Possibly because the technical aspects of good science fiction are beyond my capabilities, I chose to write about things I have had more experience with, namely action and adventure stories with lots of violence done to those that deserve it.
