Just a simple question I want to ask.
What was the last country we sent our boys to defend, or supplied with war materials, that did not eventually stab us in the back? To be honest, I cannot think of any nation we defended that has not come back and stabbed us. They either become adversaries against us, or their citizens grow up to hate us.
I ask, because I see so many clamoring for us to get involved in the Ukraine/Russian war. Me? I say let them decimate each other.
We gain nothing helping either side. It is time we spend our resourses and efforts on defending our own borders.
Inquiring minds want to know.
Oh, wait...
It’s a trick question...
They continuously vote against us on things at the UN, plus they want our country to be destroyed by pushing their Climate Change lies.
I’m pretty sure that the number would be close to the total that we backstabbed........
Does Israel count?
Only because we felt the need to help one side or the other in their own political troubles.
Again we should stay out.
It was a joke. You may recall a couple of unpleasantly warm days in southern Japan in August, 1945...
Possibly, but we know they have stolen from us via espionage which in turn they themselves have shared with others.
True, and every country we freed in our desire to stop the AXIS, has eventually turned their backs on us.
South Korea?
They continuously vote against us on things at the UN…
This question (and answer) should be asked every time we vote to authorize our annual membership dues at the U.N.
The UK, Australia comes to mind.
Texas
However, we were attacked, so we were defending ourselves in the process.
We did not get in it to help defend others, which many actually believe FRD may have allowed the attack on Pearl Harbor to happen to get Americans on board to get in the fight.
Japan and Italy were allies during WWI, enemies during WWII.
Russia and China were allies during WWII, enemies during the Cold War.
I expect down the road, Turkey will be another “ally” that will eventually become our enemy.
The UK has been a reliable ally.
Anyway, I gotta agree with your take on the Ukraine-Russia war. There are no good guys there. Plus it’s a Europe problem, not a US problem. It’s not 1945 anymore.
Back then Europe was devastated. And we were rich. Today Europe can stand on its own. And we are heavily in debt. We should tend to our own problems. The old Q-man got it right:
“She [America] goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.”
John Quincy Adams
Seems to me South Korea so far has been pretty supportive of us but of course it still needs us to defend them from the North. But you only need to read history to realize that national alliances are as fickle as the winds — they blow in all directions depending in changing needs.
LOL, great response
In my opinion, the help we give ends up going beyond mere defeat of a foe. We end up staying to help “rebuild”, then we start putting political pressure on governments to conform to some sort of quasi-US policies. In effect, we end up nation-building. This appears as a threat to other nations in the area who see us as economically, culturally, and politically imperializing the region. To be honest, this kind of pushback is entirely predictable from an outsider looking in. It’s part of the reason that a restrained foreign policy is required one that tends towards a more isolationist policy in all but the most extreme cases (like the eventual, unrestrained conquests of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan). Even in those cases, we overstayed our welcome and noble purpose.
