I think the civil war decided that though. But there is no dispute that secession is allowed if you amend the constitution to allow it. You would have a hard time getting the number of states needed to approve it now. But if the libs continue to degrade the unity of the nation I think it could happen. For example if the government can’t pay the national debt…. That might be the trigger.

Math is not your strong suit. Instead of filling the US Treasury with payroll taxes, those taxes would be going to the Texas Treasuery, get it? Secession does not mean taxas are no longer paid. Same amount of money paid, different (better) management of those funds.

You are not listening. Secssion is not prohibited. They couldn't amend the USC after the war because in doing so congress would have codified the fact the the South had every legal right to secede!!!

” . . . in order to have a peaceful secession, we'd have to take our share of the National Debt, which comes out to about $100,000 for every man, woman, and child.”

That is one side of the ledger; what about the asset side of the ledger.

The federal government owns 61 percent of Alaska; how much is that land, oil, gas, and gold worth and what percent of that is to be returned to the people of Texas when the assets are distributed during the divorce.

The federal government owns much more including 27 percent of all the land in the United States - plus a lot of buildings, military equipment, and mineral rights, and highways. Texas helped to pay for a lot of that and are entitled to remuneration to help offset their portion of the federal debt.

It may turn out the federal government owes Texas more than Texas owes the feds.

“But there is no dispute that secession is allowed if you amend the constitution to allow it.”

There is no right enumerated in the U.S. Constitution to allow a state to secede, just as the Constitution does not give the states the right to allow the sale of cherry infused Dr. Pepper.

The founders didn’t set up our country that way.

To find intent of the founders, read the Constitution including the Bill of Rights and pay attention to amendments 9 and 10.

That’s why you’d need to amend it.

Had there been a clause prohibiting secession the Constitution would have never been ratified.

Don't mortgage your future.

Secession isn't prohibited.

This nation was founded on secession and the framers of the constitution and those ratifying were not about to turn their backs on the Declaration of Independence just 12 years later.

“..Joe is teetering on the edge of Hell, one slip away from eternal damnation....”

He can quit “teetering” right now and just go ahead and do the world, and Hell, a great, big favor by just taking the “plunge”.
Maybe old heels-up, knees-wide will give him that special little “nudge”.

Some years ago we got enough signatures on a petition to just have the question of succession on the republican ballot. The Republicans refused to put it on.

They did the same thing this year, said some of the TNM signatures gathered, to put the question on the ballot, were not valid.

I don’t think there’s a major paper in Texas that’s owned and staffed by Texans.
