Texas Newspaper Issues Warning About Secession
Newsweek ^ | 03/02/2024 | Natalie Venegas

Posted on 03/04/2024 3:59:06 PM PST by Rusty0604

In an opinion piece published on Saturday titled, "Texas voters, beware of pro-secession candidates," the Dallas Morning News' editorial board raised concerns over Republican candidates signing the "Take Texas Back" pledge.

"As Super Tuesday approaches, Republican primary voters in Texas should beware. A worrying number of candidates for the Texas House of Representatives and other offices have signed the 'Take Texas Back' pledge that makes them promise to advance legislation to help Texas secede from the United States under certain conditions," the opinion piece read.

The "Take Texas Back" pledge asks candidates to promise that if elected, they will place the interests of Texas before any nation or political entity. By signing the pledge, candidates also promise to advance legislation to call for a referendum for Texans to assert their status as an independent nation, if a majority of residents are interested.

According to the newspaper, over 150 people have signed the pledge so far

The Dallas Morning News' editorial board also warned that the pledge of secession creates "sizable" challenges such as funding, as the "Take Texas Back" pledge does not identify how an independent Texas would run in the absence of federal funding.

"Candidates who sign the pledge also signal that they aren't thinking far ahead about the real-life consequences of their statements. The website for the Take Back Texas pledge does not identify how an independent Texas would be funded in absence of federal money that currently comprises about 30% of our state's budget. The practical challenges to establishing an independent nation are sizable and cannot be patched over with extreme rhetoric," the opinion piece stated.

This is exactly why the DOE, HHS, HUD, And others are not constitutional. The IRS takes money from State citizens to spend on things that are constitutionally the State’s responsibility, then threaten to withhold funds if the State doesn't do what the Fed says.

We'd be better off just paying the portion of Fed taxes that covers federal mandates and spend the rest of it as we see fit.

Secession is a pipe dream, but if this leads to voting in politicians who are for more assertion of state’s rights and/or less dependency on federal funds, then that would be a good thing.

“ federal money that currently comprises about 30% of our state’s budget”

Not sure how this works.

Much of it obviously comes from Texas in the first place.

Add DOL to that. Employment should be a private agreement between the ER and EE.

The Dallas Morning News is another leftist cesspool rag IMHO. I know — lived in Dallas for many years. The main reason people read that rag is for news about the Cowboys.

Their print circulation in 2022 was 65,369 (easy to look up). Pretty sure Free Republic has more viewers.

Also, Fox News viewership is somewhere around 3M per day. Oops, that was just for one show: The Five.

mmm, not seeing a down side here.

If the Dallas Morning News' editorial board raised concerns over Republican candidates signing the "Take Texas Back" pledge, then it is quite plain that it is a flashing red beacon to the progs that they are STILL not welcome by most here in Texas.

There will be a variety of karins, progs, race hustlers, perverts, etc. screeching and moaning about how democracy communism is "being threatened" by God fearing, law abiding, hetrosexual familes and they must be stamped out for the good of the satin worshipers.

Abbott says we are projected to have a $38billion surplus next year, and he want to use it to lower property taxes.

Biden is trying to break Texas by stopping natural gas exports ( and screwing our European allies by doing so).

.....pledge does not identify how an independent Texas would run in the absence of federal funding.

THIS is what urbanites in Texas are worried about - Federal money. Federal carrot money to implement leftist actions the federal government is precluded from doing on its own.

How would Texas operate without federal funds? Firstly, all the free loading leftists in the big cities would actually have to go out and work - or move to another state. Win Win...

At this time, secession is more of a metaphor than something practical, since, for starters, in order to have a peaceful secession, we’d have to take our share of the National Debt, which comes out to about $100,000 for every man, woman, and child.

Then, of course, is the fact that the Democrats DO NOT want a ‘Two-State Solution’ where Texas and the US live peacefully side-by-side (similar to the Palestinians not wanting a ‘Two-State Solution’), as they know they cannot justify their tyranny with a free country located right next to them. The Democrats simply want us dead, or, if not immediately practical, for us to be their slaves. So that means we, in Texas, would require outside help, perhaps from Mexico, although I doubt they’re inclined to help.

Ok, now that I’ve explained why we won’t have secession any time soon, that doesn’t mean support for the concept is meaningless. As was pointed out by some genius (but not me, in this case), support for Trump’s Wall was a metaphor, as it meant that whoever was supporting The Wall (and meant it) understood just how bad Illegal Immigration was and was willing to go all out to fix the problem. Similar here - the idea of dividing up the US was out of the question for most of our lifetimes, but then we also didn’t spend years in jail for simply attending a rally and following police instructions.

So the bottom line is that any Republican who tells us to f-off when we talk secession isn’t worth our vote, as they are part of the problem...and they give it away by not even understanding why secession is even being discussed.

We canceled our subscription to the DMN over 20 years ago. Nothing but anti-American progressive tripe as far as the eye could see. But did they give a list of who these horrible people are? Gee, I want to be sure I’m not voting for one [wink, wink].
